I agree withvthe OP. Flaming pools of lava (that sometimes ignite you when adjacent to a ball but sometimes dont) are at the top of the list of obnoxiously tedious game mechanics when it comes to dungeons.
I forgot where I found it but I wander the world a lot.
After that, it's permanently on for me in dungeons and I just walk through fire.
Later on, there's an enemy that straight up throw potion of phosphor (fire) at you.
This game obsession with fire is weird.
Maybe it's lore though because the sun comes back later if you get rid of the gods
