Low quality cinematics?
Hey guys,

I'm loving this port. I've never played it on the console, but it's really sweet. I'm going to get a controller and learn how to play it on that and actually become good at it. Basically, everything is great, with exception of one thing: the cinematics.

The audio seems kind of washed out and the video kind of medium-low quality up until I get ready to fight, when the graphics and sound return to normal. Is this an issue on my part or an issue everybody is sharing? If it's not just me, I'd like to see a patch for this.

Also, to reiterate, when fighting my computer runs the game smoothly.

The videos are 720p pre-rendered videos. Exact the same as on console.

Check the "movies" folder and play the videos (bink format, need rad tools) and you'll see it's a lame conversion of the ps3/xbox 360 videos.. ;3
Example of differences

PS3 = http://postimg.org/image/spunqxdad/
Not to mention the audio ;3

I'm sorry to say but I predict we won't see any patches for this game.

My reasoning for this prediction is because the developers of the game haven't reached out to the PC community at all. They don't post here on the forums and they don't even have their own forums for the game. They have twitter accounts but I don't think anyone has gotten a response from them yet.

People are working on upscaling the videos, so new copies of it will be available some time soon. I did see some entries for the audio in the ini files, will have to check again, but there are some values one can modify to improve it, that's for sure.

I hope they are eventually improved, because it makes no sense for them to suck and the game to be decent.

Or the very least it makes no sense for it to suck on PC but be really good on the consoles.

Good point, Stonecold. Someone in the mod community will be able to offer alternative bik files. It should not be hard. Someone just needs to record the 360 or PS3 versions, encode to bik, find someone to host the files, and viola!

I can't believe the developers let Mortal Kombat out the doors with such horrid audio for the cinematics. That would have seemed perhaps among the easiest parts of porting this title....

I checked the PS3 disc, the video files are in 720p. Theres no 1080p source to transfer to PC from that route.

The encoding of the PC videos is worse than the 360/PS3 version.

Lol its true, they need to work on the audio and cinematics XD
Don't think it's legal to post the links here... but on trmk.org you can find the links to a PS3 movies rip for PC which has better quality but the size is 7.22GB

Movies for the game or movies to watch outside the game? If it's the latter, I could just watch it on YouTube.

Really? My loading times are somewhat swift.
Sub-Zero Jul 22, 2013 @ 8:25pm
Why didn't they just have the engine render the cutscenes in real time? I realize why they prerendered for the consoles, but the loading time on most pcs shouldn't be a big deal. This way they'd look the same as the gameplay sequences at any resolution/gfx setting.

I hope Warner Bros. / HVS can release the videos in 1080p quality.
