- Load Steam
- From the Library section, right-click on Mortal Kombat 9 and select Properties from the menu.
- Select the Local files tab and click the Verify integrity of game cache... button.
- Steam will verify the game's files - this process may take several minutes.
- Once the process is completed, the Check Window will automatically exit.
If Steam finds any files which are damaged keep verifying the files until it reports that no files are damaged.
If that not works i should send them my dxdiag and msinfo, thats what im duing atm, because the first step worked well and no corrupted file. But maybe that trick helps someone else :) I'll inform u after they answered my dxdiag and msinfo. :)
Kugelfish, u should try that verifything too, maybe u have better luck.
Oh, and btw, that one just a tipp, but it helps a little so u don't need to afraid because of the black screen, when im in character selection, i press alt+tab, going to youtube, google, etc.... and looking an all character video/picture (like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbbowrfctFs -jump to about 1:27-1:28) and start counting, memorize it, go back to game and select. So if i want Scarlet, it's 6 down 1 left, for Jade it's 2 down 1 right, -like a combo move :D
Try to start the game in windowed mode. To do that, rightclick the game in Steam, click 'Properties' and then click on 'Set Launch Options'. Now type "-windowed" (without quotes) in the text box and hit 'Ok'. Launch the game again and see if it helps.
If this doesn't resolve the issue, please use the selective startup mode to test whether any programs interefere with the game. Windows will have some programs pre loading without prompting you. You can use the system configuration utility in Windows XP and Windows Vista to tell windows not to pre-load these background programs that can interfere with the game.
1. Go to your start button and select RUN and in the box labelled OPEN type MSCONFIG and press the OK button. (Windows Key + R brings up the box)
2. Click on the tab that reads SERVICES
3. Check the box that reads "Hide all Microsoft Services"
4. Click on the button that reads "DISABLE ALL"
5. Now click on the tab that reads START UP.
6. Click on the button the reads "DISABLE ALL" and press the OK button. Windows will prompt you to restart the system.
7. Once windows restarts then you may get a message that the SELECTIVE STARTUP has been used.
8. Just close the message box. Now try the game.
If you wish to restore your background programs/services, you can select the "Enable All" option instead of the disable all option in the msconfig operation.
Moreover, I would also recommend that you disable the following Codecs and check whether this resolves the issue:
XFire video codec
Bandi Motion Jpeg
Bandi MPEG-1 Video
Please also open the following codec and add the game to the list of exceptions/allowed programs:
ffdshow Video Codec.
Good Luck Guys ;)
