They'd have to release an entirely new version without Freddy.
What are you talking about? Freddy was not paid DLC on Steam, he's part of the roster automatically. As for consoles? I highly doubt that many people are on Play Station 3 or Xbox360 still playing this.
Now, Freddy is assumed to be the reason MK9 was removed from store pages, and is the most likely cause of its removal, but it hasn't been confirmed. There could be some other ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ reason for the game's removal that WB is not willing to disclose.
Also, not really many people are playing the game on Steam either so no matter what version you play you are getting a dead online experience.
Yet they did, and it isn't coming back.
If it was due to a remaster being planned the remaster would have already been teased or an announcement would be made. Some have suggested that it's because WB and Netherrealm have gone woke, and while they have gotten ridiculous I doubt simply drinking social political koolaid is the cause for removing MK9 from all digital storefronts.
The only realistic cause for its removal is that WB didn't want to pay licensing fees similar to Activision not wanting to pay for the Transformers license, so they just removed every Transformer game they ever published, which was all of them. I bought those games, I have WFC and FoC both on Xbox360 and in my Steam library, that didn't prevent Activision from cucking people out of those games though.
Freddy is the only logical conclusion as to why the game was removed randomly from Steam. If the same thing happens to MK10 because of Alien and Predator we will have a better idea, but until then it's guess work.
