Is there a 1p versus PC option?

There is a Ladder option for Single Player, but the characters for COM and the stages are set. Is there a more customizable Single Player VS COM? Like, you can choose your opponent and the stage? If there is, how to access it?
I know Practice is an option, but that is practice, not exactly 1v1 in spirit.

Is posible to play versus vs cpu using the MK9 hook?(but not like in practice mode, like 1v1 player versus mode but with cpu)
