Dawn of Sorrow was the most disappointing metroidvania I've ever played
Finally got around to beating it.

Have played all the metroidvania now.

This game sucked. Map was bland, bosses were boring, no dracula boss, supporting cast sucked, and final boss was horrible.

I really enjoyed Soma's first game but this one was shocking.

Compared to Portrait of ruin and God tie order of ecclesia this game sucked.

I remember liking Dawn more than Aria but they're both pretty close.

And I have no idea how OP could rank HoD higher than Dawn. That's crazy.
Because it's better
Truly a contrarian

First game played in a franchise/genre can leave people inclined to that first experience. Sorta a familiarity bias basically.

My first Metroidvania game was Super Metroid, which I didn't really appreciate as a kid because it was too scary. My first Castlevania game as a kid was Castlevania 64 a few years later. And my first Igavania was Harmony of Dissonance unless people count Lament of Innocence. But the GBA double pack included Aria too, which I obviously felt was the better game, so I played it more instead and abandoned HoD (never finishing it). I personally liked Aria even more than Lament of Innocence because the RPG elements in it.
