Y'know what?
I don't think I hate Dawn of Sorrow's art style as much as I remember. The issue is that coming from Aria and Ayako's art is too big of a change that it'd take away from anything cause her art is incredible.

Looking at the gallery, its a pretty good anime style, its honestly a lot better than Portrait of Ruin's in their design (don't hate PoR's, just find some of the designs outside of the main two to be eh, and even then, Charlotte's hair bothers me and idk why).

Would I instantly install that one romhack mod that changes the portraits of DoS if it is made? Yes, am i leaving DoS last just on the off chance that it gets made? Also yes, does it bother me as much as it did back in the day? A bit but not as much. Soma's jacket is a straight up downgrade tho', that i can never forgive.

It still baffles me that so many people prefer Kojima's art, when her proportions were more often than not completely awful. It's like, did she not realize you can pencil out a sketch before you start painting? Here's a good example:

Like, this is just embarrassing.

It's not cherry picking when it's every other piece. Here are two more, marvel at their tiny heads:

Art is subjective, i like the ones you sent, sry bud, go bark at another tree.

Hector's head being smaller than his fists is "subjective"? I'm sorry, what?

A hand is supposed to be the size of your face, kinda, its an art trick thing, based on the propertion she goes for, usually lanky, tall, broad shoulders, that is in fact ok anatomy wise, now if you vibe with the proportions or not, thats subjective. Its like Clamp, aint for everyone.

Yeah, her characters definitely have the "yaoi hands", I'll agree with you on that.

its not like the art looks bad, its that it was a bad decision, looks outta place, n continues to be the wrong choice for the franchise.

u mite not feel as strongly now since time passed, but it rly was a bad idea.

I just meant that as anime goes, it is solidly made, even if i dont like it still, it looks good in a bubble, but yeah, i rather something closer to Ayako or the person that did Ecclesia which i forgor the name of.

It's Ayami not Ayako, didn't want to correct you the first time, but now you typed Ayako again, so just letting you know, it's Ayami Kojima.

The only reason Aria of Sorrow has that art style is because they wanted to copy the manga look of Death Note. As a result, Death Note copied the anime look of Dawn of Sorrow for the anime version of Death Note.

Source? Cause its just Ayako's style from the get go, if anything, they looked at her art in that one PSX Castlevania remake for inspiration on the look of one of the characters in Judgement. I may be wrong, but it just kinda predates Death Note, and even if it doesn't, i'm gonna need the source on that to be sure.

Right now I can't prove it because google has dumbed down the results and removed various results from appearing. :/

Kay, personally i find it very unlikely, considering Death Note's manga is 2003 and Symphony, the first Ayako piece, is 1997, and Chronicles, Harmony, Aria and Lament are 2003, which, it is the same year Death Note started publishing, but its a bit too close if you ask me.

But again, with solid proof ig the 2003 games could be trying to go for that look, but again, 1997 with Symphony. I just find it more likely that Iga and people working with her loved her art and kept with it.

I can see the symphony of the night look kept in but I do remember reading about the other situation somewhere... Eitherways I prefer the Dawn of Sorrow look, and I don't know why some call it generic when I don't see other anime using that look.
