Castlevania Dominus Collection

So why exactly is it called the Dominus Collection?
I was wondering this... The use of Dominus is only used in 1 title: Order of Ecclesia. It's not used at all in the other titles. And I don't mean just in this collection. It's not used in castlevania anywhere else, period.

Kind of odd to name an entire collection after something used in just 1 game. So why call it the Dominus Collection?

Well, Advance Collection is called that because of the Gameboy Advance games. Kind of easy to name it as such since Advance is not a trademarked word. But in this case the games are mostly DS titles. And DS is in fact trademarked.

Then it dawned on me...

D ominu S

I know I can't be the first to figure this out. But this is very clever if this was the actual intent of Konami in naming it.

Playing Order of Ecclesia as of now and Dominus is said to be Draculas Power split into three parts. 3 DS Games.
I kinda like witty names like instead of something lame like
"CASTLEVANIA ULTIMATE DS COLLECTION" or else.

As far as I'm aware the "DS" in "Nintendo DS" is short for "Dual Screens" or "Double Screens". From what I've seen there's screen options in this that make use of three screens instead of two, so even if "DS" wasn't trademarked it would only be accurate in the sense of the original hardware the games were debuted on and not their presence in this collection specifically.

It appears that the titles in this collection are running on a sort of port and emulation hybrid that exceeds the original DS hardware limitations for an enhanced experience while also making some minor alterations to the controls as needed to be fully playable with controllers, so in that regard it would appear that the intention for this collection is for it to count as a collection of re-releases for newer hardware rather than just being a collection of old DS games. This could also be a contributing reason for why they chose against simply calling it the "DS Collection". They want to give off the impression of this being a modernized collection and not just a traditional emulation compilation. This is also reflected by the collection featuring an exclusive release of a brand new remaster of an old arcade title, further giving off the feeling of things being made new and modern.

This is probably the closest to the truth. While the term and lore element only actually appears in one game out of the franchise, it makes a lot of sense for its usage in the title here to be alluding to the fact that there's three different "chapters" to play through just as the Dominus in Ecclesia comes in three parts.

Dominus is Dracula's power.

The Power of Dominance is Dracula's power.

The name is from OoE, but the concept is in two of the games.

Dominus doesn't mean "dominance", it means Lord/Master, e.g. Anno Domini = in the year of our Lord.

It's very simple; It's the DS collection of games, and "Dominus" starts with a D and ends with a S, thus creating the acronym. I wouldn't call this clever, it's the simplest play on the word possible.

They could have gone with any similar word, but since Dominance is the name of the power in Order of Ecclesia, this fits perfectly.

The games are ordered chronologically from a lore perspective. Order of Ecclesia takes place in the 1800s. Portrait of Ruin in 1944. Dawn of Sorrow in 2036. Order of Ecclesia happens first, so it's the first game in the collection despite it being the last of the three to come out.

dominate (v.)
1610s, "to rule over, control by mastery," a back-formation from domination or else from Latin dominatus, past participle of dominari "to rule, dominate, to govern," from dominus "lord, master,"

The words are connected by both etymology and meaning.
