I found out by replaying the collection that dawn and portrait both have some very minor petty gripes that kinda ruin them being perfect for me. Like the grinding in order and the quest design in Portrait, as well as the end game just being pallet swapped levels. Don't get me wrong they are not bad games in my eye and I cannmot recommend it enough.
But Order of Ecclesia fixes those things and the whole seperate levels thing didn't bother me all that much either. The attacks also consuming very little mana made it barely noticeable for me at all and if anything I could just think of it as a stamina bar and adjust to it.
Now I don't know about you all but I didn't even find it that much harder than the other castlevania games. If anything circle of the moon gave me much more problems and the final boss of portrait of ruin is just a very silly difficulty spike. Although still not as bad as the final boss of circle of the moon, next time I replay that game I will just call it quits once I reached it.
I devinitely disagree, as the difficulty of Circle of the moon doesn't even feel intentional. The arguably hardest bosses of the game are right in the middle of it and the second half is really easy until you meet the very final boss.
Plus the castle design that always leads you into dead ends without giving you any guidance where to go next. Sometimes the way forward is even located on the very opposite end of the castle.
It's my least favorite game of the Castlevania Metroidvania Canon for a reason. Don't get me wrong I don't hate the game, but it is in my opinon the worst part of a collection of games I really like.
Was it really normal tho? The difference of the difficulty to circle of the moon and symphony of the night is night and day (heck that one might even be the easiest Castlevania period) and even contemporary games like shantae and Metroid fusion are much easier.
But I absolutely agree that the technical side was impressive, especially considering it was a launch title for the GBA. Somehow they made a huge step backwards with harmony of dissonance in that regard.
I can't believe there is actually someone out there that likes CotM, the worst GBA Castlevania game and the worst metroidvania Castlevania game. Guess there's a first for everything.
OoE and Harmony of Dissonance exist. Besides, that's like his opinion man. Maybe he likes challenging game and isn't a simp for a generic female lead from a very mediocre game.
Also, the idea that people like OoE solely because they're simping for Shanoa is also perhaps the stupidest thing I've ever heard. You are living in a different reality than the rest of us sir.
