I hate Order of Ecclesia
Level design is total crap and the enemies hit you for half your health every attack.
The fact that you have MP to use attacks is just absolute trash too.

Good thing that the other two games on the collection are amazing.

OoE might be the worst Castlevania game ever made.

Just got done with Order of Ecclesia the other day and while I have a lot more nostalgia for the other two games I think I like this one the best.

I found out by replaying the collection that dawn and portrait both have some very minor petty gripes that kinda ruin them being perfect for me. Like the grinding in order and the quest design in Portrait, as well as the end game just being pallet swapped levels. Don't get me wrong they are not bad games in my eye and I cannmot recommend it enough.

But Order of Ecclesia fixes those things and the whole seperate levels thing didn't bother me all that much either. The attacks also consuming very little mana made it barely noticeable for me at all and if anything I could just think of it as a stamina bar and adjust to it.

Now I don't know about you all but I didn't even find it that much harder than the other castlevania games. If anything circle of the moon gave me much more problems and the final boss of portrait of ruin is just a very silly difficulty spike. Although still not as bad as the final boss of circle of the moon, next time I replay that game I will just call it quits once I reached it.

Circle of the moon felt like a harder game done right. Stuff like stamina, and taking heavy damage right away makes it less fun for me.
In concept I like Ecclesia a lot because the variety of 'weapons' and the MP bar as stamina really appealed to me, but it's obvious that it had a lot less time in the oven than it really needed, with a ton of lame or even copy-pasted map and enemy layouts, simplistic or outright godawful (Eligor...) bosses, and an overall short duration. It's a real shame.

I devinitely disagree, as the difficulty of Circle of the moon doesn't even feel intentional. The arguably hardest bosses of the game are right in the middle of it and the second half is really easy until you meet the very final boss.
Plus the castle design that always leads you into dead ends without giving you any guidance where to go next. Sometimes the way forward is even located on the very opposite end of the castle.

It's my least favorite game of the Castlevania Metroidvania Canon for a reason. Don't get me wrong I don't hate the game, but it is in my opinon the worst part of a collection of games I really like.

Yes, back in the day circle of the moon's difficulty was normal for it's time, but in these days it's considered a hard game. I will admit the map design is not as refined as later titles, but I never really got bored traveling it. It easily has the best visual and sound design of all the GBA games, and yes the visuals were too dark for the early GBA with no backlight.

Why do people say this? OoE has the most predictable bosses in the series. They all telegraph the crap out of their moves. Dumb simp.

Damn imagine being so poor you have to farm medals with inflammatory comments. Doesn't apply to me however, lol.

Was it really normal tho? The difference of the difficulty to circle of the moon and symphony of the night is night and day (heck that one might even be the easiest Castlevania period) and even contemporary games like shantae and Metroid fusion are much easier.

But I absolutely agree that the technical side was impressive, especially considering it was a launch title for the GBA. Somehow they made a huge step backwards with harmony of dissonance in that regard.

Symphony of the night was most likely to be sold as one of those games that anyone could pick up which did happen back in the day. And HoD definitely did not have the presentation of Circle of the Moon. The OST was mostly forgettable, the visuals were overly saturated to make it visually easier for the early GBA model. It’s pretty interesting how Circle of the moon pushed the GBA to it’s full extent and nothing else came close in that regards other than the minish cap.

You kidding? Circle of the Moon looks horrible. It ran horrible too. It just doesn't have that sharp feeling to it's physics like all the other games. The card system was horrible (most effects being outright useless). The OST was kind of trash (unlike HoD). I'd dare say it's the worst of all the castlevanias in the metriodvania branch.

I can't believe there is actually someone out there that likes CotM, the worst GBA Castlevania game and the worst metroidvania Castlevania game. Guess there's a first for everything.

OoE and Harmony of Dissonance exist. Besides, that's like his opinion man. Maybe he likes challenging game and isn't a simp for a generic female lead from a very mediocre game.

If he likes challenging games. Then OoE would be his favourite. It's the hardest game in the series, especially on hardmode lvl 50/1 on a fresh save. Hence why it's the best imo. So that clearly isn't the point. Side tangent, CotM is jank, not hard, but I digress.

Also, the idea that people like OoE solely because they're simping for Shanoa is also perhaps the stupidest thing I've ever heard. You are living in a different reality than the rest of us sir.
