Is using save states viable for item hunting in PoR?
I have a state saved outside one of the Nest of Evil rooms to farm for an item, reloading it if it isn't dropped. Am I wasting my time with how the item drops are calculated or should this theoretically work?

Update: For anyone also seeking the answer to this, I ended up using the suspend option in the start menu. When you reload from that save, it refreshes the monsters in the room, but also allows you to keep anything else you've picked up. Doesn't work for bosses except it did for Fake Trevor, Sypha, and Grant.

It depends how far back you go. It depends on your inputs, if you act differently before killing an enemy, you may get a different result, but if you do it right as you kill an enemy nothing will change.

Using save states will just rewind the RNG so you will be limiting yourself to the same handful of outcomes.

Save state and rewind feature to farm items in this particular area definitly does not works at all.

I tried farming gold rings for nearly an hour rewinding from the moment of kill all the way back to outside of their room. Never got anything (gambler glasses were reporting a 3.25% drop rate)

Later I tried to farm Thor's Bellow. The Amducida was always droping Record 4 and the Vapula was always dropping money, the amount was changing with rewinds but always money and record 4, did not matter how far back I rewinded or loaded save state.

Only way to reset the RNG for me was either quit game back to the collection title selection then load from the in-game savefile or completing the Nest's floor.

I don't know if this behavior is limited to the Nest of Evil, Portait of Ruins or the entire collection because i did not used rewind to farm rare items before that part.

As far as I noticed, it works like in "Monster Hunter".
I've played a PSP game also with saving while mining.

It feels like the items are in a constant roulette.
If you kill the enemy again and again at the exact frame (like with a jumping attack, rewinding before you killed the enemy but still in the middle of the attack), the result is always the same.
If you wait a split second, the result is different.

I haven't farmed that way, just tested it on a Valkyrie in "DoS", and my observation came from her money drops.
That being said, I've played "Circle of the Moon" a few hours ago, killed two enemies for their luck-increasing ring (super rare item), rewinded a bit, killed them again... and suddenly got instantly 2 rings.

EDIT: I'm too lazy for this right now, but you can basically test it the other way around.
Look for a trash enemy with an unimportant drop, make it drop the item, rewind... and see if he drops it again.

Use the rewind option. I farmed 100% souls in Dawn Of Sorrow this way, and used it repeatedly in the CV Advance collections. It absolutely works. If you get the same drops, just switch up the final attack that kills the mob, or wait 1 second to hit to reset the RNG.

Thanks for the update!! I was trying to grind for two gold rings, and was just rewinding for about 45 mins. Then I looked up this post, did the suspend option and got two rings within 10 mins with Thief Ring and Luck Boost Max!

Rewinding definitely works and did so in the Advance collection. But it's clear you only get one set of possible drops when you rewind so, if you don't get something after a few minutes of rewinds, I'd recommend people leave the room and respawn the enemy just in case. A combination of this helps getting drops immensely.
