How do these compare to bloodstained?

I loved the handheld Castlevanias so much back in the day. I would even say they're some of my favorite games. But after 100%ing Bloodstained and loving it, I'm wondering how tough it's going to be to go back to its predecessors.

Does anybody have some insights into that?

The Sorrow series laid out the groundwork for the Shard system in Bloodstained Ritual of the Night. You'll find the Tactical Soul system in Dawn of Sorrow works almost identically to the Shard system in Bloodstained.

The 2D art in these games is brighter and more appealing than Bloodstained's 2.5D visual style. Also, the default character in Bloodstained starts out with really slow movement, which is thankfully not a problem in the DS Castlevanias.

It's all good. Bloodstained/Castlevania. You should enjoy it all. :)

I think that the core gameplay of a (good) metroidvania game is basically timeless so it doesn't really matter if the game is old, you can still go back and play it just fine, SoTN is a very good example of that.

ive always seen bloodstained as the "fourth game in the DS igavanias", its high praise, but you can also say thats an issue, bloodstained is pretty good for sure, but my issue with it is that it doesnt surpass the DS games, its only "just as good"

that's how i see it as least, if you liked bloodstained you will like these for sure, i got pretty much no doubt
