No, they DID NOT fix Dawn of Sorrow's Soul Drops
Title says it all. I used cheat engine to modify my level and luck stat to 999 (which is already way over what is feasible in game) and it took me 42 attempts to get a single Armor Knight soul. I did however get consistent Spear drops, but at a reasonable level of Luck it's still negligible.

I can guarantee you it uses the vanilla code and if I change my luck to the default max of 52 (without items) you don't get drops at all. Hopefully this puts an end to this debate.

Which cheat engine did you use? I’d like to use it to see if I can force a level 1 cap on DoS.

I was just about to make a post on here, asking if they've fixed DoS's luck stat.
Because I know there's a Romhack for the original DS release that addresses it here:

42 attempts sounds like a lot even with the broken stat. I just farmed up 10 of those without any issue. Not that I'm disputing your claim, with 999 you should have been flying.

Sounds like bad luck in general.
the 777 Armor plus maxed Ghost Dancer soul was enough to get 2 Armor Knight souls in around 10 kills.
The Valkyrie, which took me 30 minutes with the same setup before on DS, now took me 4 kills.

The luck formula is fundamentally broken. You would need 6000 luck to turn a 10% chance into a 20% chance. The formula is (100((Drop Rate/100)*12)) / (4096-(LCK/2)), which basically means luck has almost zero influence because the final divisor is being reduced from 4096 to a minimum of 4046.

Even if you cut the divisor's initial number down to 64, 99 luck would almost double drop rates, but doubling a 1% chance is still a very low chance. This is why the romhack elects to simply make 1 luck = +0.1 drop chance

In other words, luck is a placebo.

The Luck stat is broken. Years ago someone released a fix for the ahem "alternate" version of the game. Not sure if it can be used here since this is a port?

Someone might be able to decompile the ROM, open it in DSVEdit, apply the Luck Fix ASM, build, compile and run it.

Also someone do the test this way: Save before killing Iron Golem, kill 10 Iron Golems and count how many times its soul drops, reload the save and repeat this process two more times, this ought to give a better control. Then repeat the experiment (3 x 10 Iron Golem Kills) with every luck gear and boost you can have, note the results.

I guess it's not infeasible they might have dug in and fixed that given the work they did for the seals, but I didn't expect anything myself. Perhaps someone can eventually mod it.

Hopefully the maker of the tool for the CV Advanced collection will update it. Doesn't seem to work for this.

Soma sucks his poor luck. Two games straight.

That's not how probability works. I got Valkyrie soul first try with no luck gear in my Dawn of Sorrow run 3 weeks ago, doesn't mean the game magically modified itself.

You are not guaranteed a Valkyrie soul every 30 minutes. That's basically the gambler's fallacy.

You are in denial if you think 999 luck will give me guaranteed spear drops, but not souls chalks down to bad luck.

I will admit, would be nice to not have to grind 20+ levels to get one soul to drop, completely ruining any challenge the game has if your also shooting to 100% it before you finish the game and not post game.

Trying to get the Frankenstein's Monster ( The Creature ) soul for health regeneration, went from like Level 11-13 and now level 23 will no soul still lol.

I get the feeling the way luck worked in the original wasn't necessarily unintentional, at least in the end. The code may look a bit broken, but I suspect the developers knew about how it worked in practice and were aware about and okay with the grindy results.

Having 100%'d hacks that "fix" luck in DoS, I think they end up making luck overwhelmingly powerful in mitigating rare drops. I can see why this would be a good thing for a lot of people of course, and it was certainly refreshing to so easily acquire infamously rare souls as a result, but yeah- it breaks things in its own way. Definitely a "mileage may vary" kind of matter depending on how much statistical resistance you think is appropriate towards rare equipment.
