Is Haunted Castle Revisited less arcade-hard?
In other words, is the gameplay redesigned to not steal your quarters?

It's challenging, but fair.

It's a remake, not the original game. You can play the original game, and feed it virtual quarters to boost your life.

It goes too far in the other direction in my opinion. The original Haunted Castle is obscenely difficult, but I was able to breeze through this remake on my first try.

Still much better than the arcade original, but it might just be the easiest and shortest game in the entire franchise.

I’ve never played it before and it is kicking my ass. Aria was a breeze comparatively.

Not complaining though, it’s still good.

The original arcade game limits the amount of quarters you're allowed to use to beat a game. It's not many either. So the idea that the original game was designed in a way to eat quarters is false.

Even though you can "put in" 90?

You can't even use save states in Dominus version but for me it's a good restriction.

Yup. And it's best to use all those quarters at once at the beginning and boost your character's life bar instead of having multiple lives. It's the only way to win. Get literally every accessible heart and abuse that stopwatch.

You can adjust the difficulty in the settings menu (pressing L2)
