I'm afraid this is how the game works and It is not possible to manually save your game in Far Cry 6. All saving is done through autosaves, and the game chooses when to autosave.
then save and quit
you will not keep mission progress if your in the middle of a mission but just location and completed missions and load outs are saved
the above is incorrect you can manually save the game and leave at any time and come back later .... once you are in a safe house or safe location .. after you've completed the first island any base you take over is a safe area
there are a few places you can do this on the first ISLAND as well i just forget the locations off the top of my head
but no you can't quit and leave in the middle of a mission
all far cry games worked like that past far cry 3
