How is there a Game of The Year edition when it wasn’t GOTY?

It is spelled "gaslighted".

Of course it is wrong, quite obviously so. If they wanted to call it "Complete Edition" they easily can. And no, companies do not win the GOTY award with their GOTY edition, but with their base game. The GOTY edition is meant to celebrate the award. It is morally wrong by UbiSoft to label an edition as GOTY when the game did not win the award. It will cause people to think the game won the award and this is what UbiSoft wants.

Olympic gold medals still are gold-plated (silver inside), but any product these days being called "gold" at best features gold paint on the box. Gold itself has become a metaphor used when it is unreasonable to apply gold. So now we have "gold standard" or "gold edition" which are only meant to be used as a metaphor and understood as such. However, wanting to make the GOTY award into a metaphor while being a game maker who can win the GOTY award is morally wrong. One either wins the award or shuts up about it and tries again. This will be the work of "woke" people who love to blur every line they cross.

Because Ubisoft is a fraud company that releases nothing but trash

Because almost every single game that has come out since 2008 brings out a game of the year package that includes most DLC and most addons. Are you new here?

ubisoft is in denial

For the same reason why there is no gold in a Gold Edition.

They call it GOTY edition to make you think that it won the award and so the game must be good, they SHOULD call it " complete edition" but they don't because they might decide down the line to add more DLC to it which could definitely cause a legal issue if they've marketed it as a complete package
