La Varita not killing enemies through walls?

I've fully upgraded the weapon and it's still very awkward to use, sometimes the bullet doesn't hit red-outlined enemies at all through walls during the Triado supremo mode, and it doesn't kill enemies, helmeted or not, with headshots; while I can do the same with much weaker pistols. I'm playing on guerilla difficulty btw, but is this normal?

It used to work for me on "normal" difficulties, but apparently on guerilla it just decides to not work. Can't 100% test it since...you know, can't change the difficulty lol
