What is with this trade system?

Was it designed to make players give up on trading items for pesos? Why is it one item at a time, and you have to hold the button for *each item*? Why can I not have a slider to select how much to sell, or even a direct trade option, since I'm buying items from the same person I'm selling stuff to for pesos? It's like they want you to give up on buying things by trading, and instead try to directly grind out pesos to buy things with. My wrist is already hurting just trying to sell some gas.
