Just be warned that the HD Textures are heavy use on VRAM on Far Cry 6 ya need a 8GB card or better to play at 1080p, or a 12GB+ card for 2K or 4K
Well, if you know anything about the popular opinions surrounding these games then you would know New Dawn is largely considered by fans of this series to be one of the worst entries. So you liking that but not liking 5 should tell you that maybe you're not going to agree with what most people think about this game.
Also to be fair, "creative and innovative" is something you could say about 5 if you're gonna say it about New Dawn (neither of them actually are innovative in any way at all, but they both changed things from the previous formula).
There are a ton of things that are different in New Dawn compared to 5. For instance, the gun ranking system, material gathering, the expedition system (instances), the progression, etc. Far Cry 5 was more like the predecessors in terms of go to x, clear zone, move to next zone. The only difference being not climbing towers non-stop. New dawn was quite different and I enjoyed it quite a bit.
So I guess, my question is: Is 6 the same as the predecessors - clear zone x, move to next zone, rinse and repeat, with nothing to differentiate it from the others - other than story? (I assume they went back to their roots after people didn't like that they took a chance with new dawn)
I think I'll just wait for a sale...
Yes, there are a ton of things in New Dawn different to 5. Just like there were a ton of things in 5 that were different to 3 and 4. And yes 6 also changes things again from New Dawn. It took some stuff from New Dawn (like the annoying material gathering progression, all upgrades and progression are tied to gathering resources and there's no XP or perks anymore) and put it on top of the general structure from 5 (3 sub areas to take over from minor villains before assaulting the central area). Guns no longer have bullet drop like they did in 5 and New Dawn, instead there's an annoying ammo type system that can make enemies bullet sponges if not using the right ammo type.
Very interesting....
Is switching ammo types as annoying as it sounds?
It can be at first, but you get used to it after a while and you can easily make sure each weapon in your loadout is using a different ammo type suitable for it (e.g. soft target rounds on your AR/SMG to take out regular infantry, Armor Piercing on a sniper, Explosive rounds for an LMG as an anti-vehicle weapon, etcetera). As you get higher tier weapons the effects of the ammo types become less prevalent and you can just kinda slap AP rounds on anything and it'll be effective (thought not as effective as if you micromanaged your ammo types properly).
Also forgot to mention one thing they (kind of) brought back from New Dawn was the makeshift weapons. This game has something similar called Resolver weapons, unique weapons you can acquire from a resource you can only obtain from certain enemy camps that are makeshift and usually have weird gimmicks to them. Not quite the same as the new dawn weapons but a similar idea.
And to be fair, that highest difficult is absolutely the way you should play the game. The game is way too easy, and it's still pretty easy on Guerilla mode but it at least can give you some slight amount of pushback there. I would say apart from some minor annoyances though the gunplay is still good. I don't think there is a single Far Cry game with bad feeling weapons.
I agree that the game is overly easy but the limitations Guerilla mode introduces aren't interesting. Some don't even make sense within the logic of the game. The firearms in FC6 feel weak, not 'meaty' like in FC3 where hitting an unarmored dude in the chest with a high caliber rifle like the MS16 instantly killed him. This also extends to knife kills which were quite fast in FC3. In FC6 you spend minutes chopping up a dude.
I will agree the guns here feel weaker compared to FC3/4 (though not exactly a fair comparison, those two games easily have the best gun feel in the series) but they hardly feel weak. The sounds are impactful and once you have some of the higher tier weapons in the game they will absolutely shred enemies. I can sort of agree about the knife kills, but to be honest I never liked the takedowns in 3, 4 or this game. They generally just take too long and break the flow of gameplay. Much preferred the faster unarmed takedowns you had in 5 that kept the combat flowing better.
10 hours in, I feel FC5 is the superior game. Definitely more visceral and weighty. Lots more enemies and you generally feel like you are making a difference in Hope County.
I do prefer the characters of FC6 overall as well as the inventory system.
For the 15€ I paid, I was entertained for 45 hours and I can reccomend it at least when it's on sale.
