On a Mac go to your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV/
folder and in messagetypes_custom.txt replace all yes with no (make a copy first). That disables all the event messages.
Then reload your game, pass the critical date that crashes, then save, change the above file back with your backed up copy, load into the new date and done.
This will work for all crashs caused by event popups or logs of events. Some of the crashes in the forum are caused by faults other than the message types. For me, this rescued two precious Ironman games.
messagetype.txt in the interfaces folder. Change the popup=yes to popup=no.
TRIGMOD= { to_me= { popup=no } } TRIGMODLOST= { to_me= { popup=no } }
Thank you acerbic!
This worked perfectly :)
This worked perfectly for me as well (Mac OSX for me)
This did not solve the problem for me (Windows 7). I have tried disabling a bunch of the popups in-game, which also hasn't worked.
First time it crashed from start of may, then i somehow passed that but now it crashes from the start of june.
I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (64bit)
the console log is saying first when you start the game multiple times that it's not finding some 32bit steam library, but still it starts. Then after the crash the only thing in console is Segmentation fault core dumped...
Found that loading the cloud save in a windows installation (VMware Fusion) playing through that month, and then resyncing seems to fix it, but it does sometimes reappear.
Going to try the messagetypes.txt changes posted above.
How did you find the specific events causing the crash?
I tried that fix under Ubuntu 12.10 x64 and no luck. I also tried turning off all popups with the game's GUI and no luck. Anyone know where to find an error log? If I run the game from console, all it says is "Segmentation fault (core dumped)" when it crashes to desktop.
