Vassal/PU-partner takes land in war... occasionally. What determines it?
In my many wars with others my vassals and PU partners occasionally end up occupying enemy territory (ownership theirs), while a lot of other times it magically ends up being shown as occupied by me. I've seen it happen with me not interfering with the siege at all, to where I siege and can pass the siege to them my moving my forces away when they stack.

Understandably I'm trying to understand this so I can give land and the associated AE to my subordinates. :) But yeah, I don't really get it.

Territory taken by vassals show up as occupied by you, PU partners as as their country. Atleast I think its so :)

Any province a vassal of yours successfully sieges will show as occupied by YOU

Don't believe the same thing is true of a personal union - they will occupy the province the same way a non-vassal ALLY does, but I could be wrong, I've only had one PU

The determining factor is whoever gets to the province first and sets up the siege, as long as they don't leave it, they have control (if your forces are mixed, look at the siege, you have control if you can order the assault)

That's what I thought -- but here's a few data points to consider:

-Every territory where I started the siege and left people there, regardless of whether people join the siege, shows as being mine. Yup, so far so good.

-At a most recent multinational war, enemy Poland was adjacent to my PU but not me so I kinda neglected the theater of war there. The PU partner being Austra runs around and stomps Poland in the face... and yields 8 territories, 2 to Austria, 6 to me -- despite me not being there at all. This confuses me.

Did you or your PU partner had claims on those specific territories ?
thinking 2013 年 8 月 30 日 下午 4:57
Hrm, unclear. I should check. I know I don't have any claims but if my PU partner does, that would certainly make sense that they nab it.

Okay, just checked: no claim, different culture, and not even adjacent to their territory. :/

then I'm as stumped as you are :)
You can try your luck on the Paradox forums, the Dev often answers questions on AI

Yea gonna do that next. Am EU4-ing right now and Steam forums is a lot easier to access. :)

If you get a good to this, please post it here since I would like to know aswell. :)

Gotcha -- yea, I'd love to take lands and manage the AE better by using PUs for it; just can't figure it out.

The same thing happened to me. I'm still puzzled how that works.

Any siege won by a vassal or a PU lesser member will show up as theirs unless you have territory (occupied or owned) next to what was sieged, in that case the territory will be occupied by you.

In case of your Austria vs Poland game, you probably had a unit siege one of the territories and Austria snowballed it from there

That's really good to know -- so next time... crush their doomstack and let my PU partner slowly nab provinces one by one. I wish they knew how to carpetsiege.

They actually do know that tactic but will only employ it once the enemy armies have been destroyed. They of course won't do it as efficiently as a human can but they still do it.

From my experience

Any siege won by a vassal will show up as yours unless the vassal has a core on it in which case it becomes occupied by the vassal even if you have occupied territory next to it.
Sieges won by a PU lesser member will show up as theirs if you do not have any territory neighbouring it. Presumably they also get their cores as to the rule for vassals but I'm not sure about this. Otherwise whenever it neighbours territory occupied by you or owned by you it will be occupied by you.
