Is it possible to play past end date?
Hi there, I would like to know if it is be possible to play past the time limit without modding files as it disables ironman mode. Is it like total war where it lets you play further or does it automatically quit?

Thank you!

No idea but would LOVE to be able to keep playing after the end date. Also if you find a mod to do so a link would be great. Only found a mod to change the start date back 100 or so years.

Thanks.

I think the game ends 1821. Would love to play onwards as well.

You are always able to go into the game files and change the end date in every Paradox game. I did it for CK2, and you could do it for HoI aswell, so you probably can here as well.

Oh, nevermind, without modding ? Noes, ofcourse not. But for the others that don't mind modding, you can really change it yourself, just poke around the files, they're all openable and readable in Word.

Alright will do. Never played CK2 or EU3. I bought EU3 right as they said 4 would be comming out haha. Thank you for the reply.

in eu3 u could change one of the files to change it to whatever date you want i think it could be the same for eu4. I'll comment back if it works

ok i found the file. Go to you eu4 folder and go into common then scroll down until you fine the defines.lua right click and select open with notepad and boom you see the start and end date. I havent tested it, but it could work. I would make a backup of defines just in case

Thanks for the replies, well I'll put ironman mode aside for the time being and mod that file. I like not having a timer countdown to end the game even though I understand it from a balancing perspective.

Sweet thanks. Only issue I see it you will have to change your last rulers death date. As I found the file with all the nations leaders birth and death dates. Kinda sad, was hoping it was more random then that. WIll back everything up and give it a test.

Rather than editing the vanilla game files, copy them and create a mod entry. It's fairly easy.

1. Make a folder in '../Europa Universalis IV/mod/' named "NoEnd".
2. Inside "NoEnd", create another folder named "common".
3. Copy 'defines.lua' into the common folder you've just created.
4. Open this defines.lua file and change the end date to whatever you wish.
5. Create a new Notepad document and paste the following text:

name = "No End Date"
extend = "common"

6. Use the Save As... function, and set 'Save as type:' to 'All Files'.
7. Set the filename as "NoEnd.mod".
8. Save this file in the '../Europa Universalis IV/mod/' folder.
9. Run the EU4 launcher.
10. Select "No End Date" as your mod.

That's the basic anatomy of creating a mod. Obviously Ironman Mode gets disabled when you're running mods, but using this method, all you have to do to get it back is restart the game.

Oh, right, that's something I hadn't thought of actually. In CK2 and HoI it just isn't an issue, but here I can see how it would make things kind of silly, not to mention you'd get all the Ideas and reach a tech limit~ ( in HoI atleast it would keep scaling ).

You'd have to change it for all the remaining nations too, what happens if their leader dies and there's no follow up ? Infinite Regency ?

Probably not all that interesting to play past the end date unless you really want to go for a world domination. Which no doubt someone has already acheived already within the limit and with something crazy like a New World nation~

Death & Taxes mod is planned for EU4. And in my opinion, they did a stellar job on EU3. The timeline was 1351-1929. Keep an eye out for the mod, it really can freshen up the game, or make EU4 even more exciting.

I'm not sure where he saw this fixed death thing, but the game goes on normally, got a game to 2500 and there were no huge bugs like that (rulers birth and deaths were the same). The only weird thing I noticed is the papal controller diplomatic options disappeared until I lost and regained it. All national decisions (including the ones you chose before changing end date) get their end date changed as well.

For future reference I believe what was referenced as fixed dates for deaths and such was from the ENG - England.txt file. This is, from my quick browsing, only used for determining who is in charge when the game starts, As long as you don't start a game after the original end date everything should be dynamic and work fine.

Yes you can play from year 1444 (or earlier, 1399) to 9999 there is this mod in the workshop you can download. Problem is it's not Ironman compatible so you won't get achievements, I never play without Ironman as the temptations to cheat from the console command is too much.
