Stability
So, I understad how stability works pretty well. is there a way to boost stability without using administrative power or getting a random event? I know there are -10% modifiers to help out like advisors, but can i do 20 missions in a row and get stability for it? or do really well at trade/peace and success boost my infrastructure?

afaik most events (if not ALL) are tied to ANYTHING going on in the realm, so the only way to boost stability is by random stuff, and to improve the random stuff you basically have to be a nice rich peacefull nation
but tbh i tend to stay at 0 stab cause EVERYTIME i move to a mere +1 some stupid event kick me backward....and i waste points that way!

Only sure-fire way to boost stability is using admin power. Events often have modifiers that increase the probability of them firing, and some events only have a chance of happening if you meet the requirements, so you can influence how often you get stability boosting events, but you can't make it certain.

I got a "get us to 50 prestige" mission where the reward was +1 stability. There may be others.

If you want to look for a complete list, check the "events" folder in your EUIV install and search for "add_stability". There's also the "missions" and "decisions" folders, and some bits under "common".

The benefits of having high stability, in my opinion, outweighs just about everything unless you desparatesly need to core a county or up your tech.

Yeah, was asking because of westernizing, and it was just a pain, a loooong road with a lot of painful events

I think the re-conquest, alliance, and trading missions rewards stability sometimes.

You shouldn't waste admin points on anything more than +1 stab unless you desperately need the money boost in which case you can go to +2.
+3 is stupid to maintain due to the double admin cost of it.

My main problem with stability is the insane ammounts of comets spotted over the earth in this time period. I had one game where I was sitting at +2 stab (got an event boost) and within 6 months I had 2 comet sightings, then my ruler died and finally another comet sighted all the while trying to get enough points to tech up once.
In the end took me nearly 15 years to get one tech level due to constant comets and other stability hitting events

Damn peasants looking at comets again.

You want to keep +1 stab if at all possible. This may be a bit cheesy bit but when I have random events bumping me up to +2 I buy stab so I'll get my +3 stability happyland.

The benefits of stability are HUGE, but note a lot of -1 stab events proc off of warlike nations with high aggression (not sure, but definitely correlated to warlike), so it's your call.

Definitly this. I am playing a very warlike Sweden (Scandinavia) and with high aggression and very large borders it would be foolish of me to try to get to anything above +1 unless an event popped for me.

So as long as I'm +1 all is fine in my world and I made sure to take ideas that would reduce stab costs as well. Costs me about 67 admin pts to get from 0 to +1.

Oh, anyone caught looking at the sky in my realm gets sent to the Russian front!

I know this is an old discussion, but after my first EU4 completed ironman game I looked at the event code.

TLDR - comet sightings hit stability 2+ nations more. Also having a lvl3 natural scientist means less superstitious freakouts. Also lucky nations get em half as often.

Yes, stabilty is much more meaningfull in EU4 than it was in EU3. In EU3 it was taken for granted and reaching and maintaining +3 stab was common and easy most of the time. In EU4 I feel very lucky and fortunate when I have and can maintain +3 stab for any length of time!

Depending on the size of the nation, weapons technology of the stupid peasantry and roughly how many popped up in a single group last time, you should be able to accurately (and cheaply) set a 5-25 unit squad and set them to "kill the stupid savages, rioters, hippies, etc" and that one stack will just decimate wave after wave of ungrateful peasants who live in your nation. Screw them anyway.

Add markets, churches, docks, improved farmland, mines, etc and it becomes much cheaper to maintain your little army of genocidal marines than to EVER pay using any points.
