How do you recruit conquistadors/explorers?

this might be a dumb question, but I can't figure it out. I already have the idea that you need.

You need the Quest for the New World idea which is one of the first ideas you get under the exploration ideas (or was it colonization ideas).

Or you start portugal and get them for free at the start.

you will as said above need the right ideas. then you will need to hire a Explorer or a Conquistador from you leader tap ( general, Admiral etc.) and then you are ready to go.
1 thing to note. when you want to make a colony note the "distance to nearest core" is quite a pain to deal with

You cannot hire these guys before you get the "explore new world" idea, which you cannot really do with Spain until about the historical date of 1492. Portugal can get them earlier.

I already have the idea. I don't know how to recruit them, or if it's a random event that an explorer appears, or something.

You recruit them the same way you do generals and admirals. If you cant recruit them then it is because you dont have the idea you may have the idea group but not Quest for the New World which is the second idea in its idea group the first being a colonist (if i recall correctly).
