And what do you mean it doesn't allow you to subjugate? You can use cleanse heresy or holy war to force vassalization.
Conquest is like a buffet line. Take a sample of a lot of different dishes, don't pile 8 helpings of roasted chicken on your plate.
aka : expand in multiple directions and different areas rather than annexing 6 provinces from one nation, or you WILL earn huge AE. Religious idea set finisher and a diplomat advisor as well as some other various things can burn off the AE you do earn and keep coalitions down.
An exception is if you are fighting distantly and can simply murder any coalition that does form. As the Ottomans for example I fought the Mamluks every 5 years and took their two dozen or so provinces nonstop. I had over 400+ aggression from them and they'd been in a coalition since the start, but due to the regional setup, other nearby nations like Qara and Aq would get like 1/5th of the AE. They'd join the coalition but drop out before truce expired, because all the 'regional' conquest I had was in Egypt and the Red Sea, and I could fight Hedjaz and Najd and Adal and Oman all together and simply wipe them all out at the same time.
