Trying to go Norse
Im trying to go Norse, first tried it as Sweden, and had my ruler live with the right conditions for over 40 years, tried it again with Denmark, but no luck on either run, thought the game went on for too long, and i got too big for it to be that fun anymore.

So i've started again as Sweden, as that gotto be the fastest way to do it. Done the independence war, and basicly alt + F4 unthil Ruler got Scholar. So now i need to Pope to Excommunicate me, never got him to do it in the previous runs, with insulting him and the curia controller, also warning him, any other trick to get the Pope to excommunicate me? Also, if i click the Restraint appeals, can i still get excommunicated? The Restrait appeal will make me eligible for the Norse event, but can take 100 years, excommunicated will drop it to 50 years, otherwise i have to take Religious ideas.

Pretty sure you have to be neighbors with Pope to be able to be excommunicated.

If so, strange that it's one of the criterias then. Scandinavia aint close to the Pope.

Congratulations you got very lucky. Even in the best case, the event has an MTTH of 50 years and you usually won't be eligible for a long time, so the chances to get it at all are pretty low unless you savescum a lot.

A much more reliable way is to trigger the event The Awakening of the Norse Faith[eu4.paradoxwikis.com], because that event only has an MTTH of 2 years. It needs animist zealots to occupy a province in scandinavia, but you can reliably achieve that by owning Iceland and colonizing a province in greenland and chain of provinces from greenland to an animist province in south america. Then you can trigger animist zealots in south america and let them island hop to iceland. They will relocate from one province to the next as long as they are not blockaded and the gap is not too big(I think the maximum is 200 pixel on the provinces.bmp)

Thanks :) The event to have the country flip religion to Norse took some time, i have finished my second war with Denmark, taken Norway, and going all inn on converting the country, don't know how long it will be before i can become Norse and get the Norse ideas, it's now 1468, i went with Odin for the CC reduction, cored a bunch of provinces, as i had much of the baltic in my possession and needed to state them. I have also Novgorod and the provinces around, once i get the Norse ideas, i will be raiding and taking provinces all around so i can raid all of Christendom and be the most hated country in the world. For Odin!

Yeah the pervious tries went on for a long time with no fruits. Thanks for the tip! I have saved this one in a special folder, should i want to restart it, maybe i could get events popping sooner, but hopefully it won't be too long unthil i get Norse ideas :)

Speaking of Norse, is it possible to play as Norway and gain independence from Sweden? And if so, how?

Independence from Sweden? Norway is a junior partner of Denmark in 1444.

You can gain independence from Denmark by declaring an independence war and winning it. But that would be very difficult if you don't get anybody to support your independence. But with a few strong supporters it can be doable if you know how manage AI allies in wars.

It might be possible to grow stronger by colonizing but that takes a long time and you might get integrated

Or you can gain independence if pretender rebels enforce their demands on you, but that would require some luck to get such an event and that the AI doesn't kill the pretenders before they occupy your capital(you can help the pretenders if they siege your capital by sending a small force to start a battle and then sortie from the fort).

The Kalmar union mechanics might help, but I'm not too familiar with them
