Muskovy: Cancelling tribute to the Great Horde?
I need some help. I no cb'd the Great Horde hoping that if I completely destroy them it would cancel the tribute. I peaced out Uzbek as their ally and then sieged down every one of Great Horde's provinces, but I don't have the option of cancelling tribute? I just made them pay war reparations and 300 ducats yet I am still paying them tribute?

Check your missions for "Break the Tatar Yoke" - that tells you what to do to end it. It's got nothing to do with a peace deal. You did a lot of damage to yourself with that no-CB, but at least you'll know for next time.

Four ways to remove it:

A) Have 450+ development (wait about three months).
B) Have 300+ development and control Sarai (wait about three months).
C) Complete the mission "Break the Tatar Yoke" (instant).
D) Sarai is owned by a non-horde country (instant).
Simply winning a war against them isn't enough. There are two ways to get rid of the yearly "Tatar Yoke" tribute - either take the province of Sarai (doesn't technically need to be owned by you, just needs to be owned by any country that isn't a Horde), or complete the mission "Break the Tatar Yoke" during the war while occupying the province of Sarai. The modifier causing the tribute is tied to the province itself, not the country - and if another horde takes Sarai while the modifier is still there, you'll just start paying them tribute instead.

The mission route is easier, as you can complete its only prerequisite mission within the first month of the game by hiring mercs, focusing Admin, and hiring an Admin advisor (in other words, ordinary starting moves you'd probably be doing even if they didn't complete a mission), which then gives you permaclaims on everything around you. No-CB'ing the Great Horde is a complete and massive waste of valuable resources when the game literally spoon-feeds you claims on them and everyone else in the region.

Even then, I'd still recommend your first war be against Novgorod instead - you can afford to pay the tribute for a few years (one of the advantages of a crappy starting income is that they don't really even demand that much), and the risk of the Scandinavians conquering half of north Russia before you is just too great these days if you don't get in there first and cut them off.

Interesting, didn't realize there were additional ways to get rid of the modifier just by out-scaling them. It wasn't mentioned anywhere in the dev diaries that I remember.

I thought I read somewhere that I just needed to siege down the province of Sarai, but I guess I was mistaken. Oh well, I'll try again.

Does this mean that the mission will trigger once I siege the province of Sarai? Because that's what I thought would happen...

The requirements are worded a little poorly, but it looks like you need to both occupy that province, plus have at least 85% warscore in the war against them.

And then, of course, you have to actually click the mission before the war ends, otherwise you'll no longer be meeting the requirements.

Yeah, three actual events are possible for the ending of the Tatar Yoke. One for growing too big as described above, one for completing the mission, and a global one for ANYBODY who takes over Sarai and is not a horde. Some respectable fallbacks there.
