Creating the 'best' custom nation
Hi all, I am trying to create the 'best' custom nation for a run and am curious which tech group to pick. I won't be starting in America so can't pick High American. What are some other strong ones? I haven't seen much about Polynesian or Aboriginal - are they as OP as high american?

Also thoughts on religion would be useful: it seems like Anglican can be quite strong.

Do you have experience playing EU4 yet? If not, I don't recommend that a new player use a custom nation.

Ya, quite a few hours but very casual play - more looking to make an OP start just to have fun.

Although one can give a custom nation OP national ideas, it's not an easy start either way. For an OP start, try one of the recommended starting countries for 1444. The game lists them when you go to start a new game, and for the most part all of the listed countries have OP mission trees which will be far more important to an easy campaign than OP national ideas (though most of them also have nice national ideas, too).

I haven't done it for a good while but I believe you can get the ability to unlock winged hussars as a national idea. Take special units force limit. Stack discipline, cav ability, and shock damage. Take the Prussian government too.

Just take +1 infantry fire as tradition.

Last I heard, Anglican is terrible plus you can't take it at the 1444 start anyway (unless that changed very recently). Tech group depends on where you're going to be playing as you'll want your units to compare favorably to the locals. You also need to consider the tech and religion in combination as it affects which government types you can have.

As for OP ideas, +goods produced is very strong (albeit not cheap).

Anglican for England as least is basically a constant money printer, is a decent religion IMO.

An idea for embargo efficiency would be good

Any thoughts on OP Religion + Tech combos then?

Catholic is by far the game's strongest religion if you have a steady stream of non-believers to convert. I'm not sure what you mean by "Religion + Tech combos," though.

I haven't really kept up with the government changes the last few patches to say which is the most OP and thus what tech group and/or religion may be required. The Ottoman government used to be one of the best but it requires some sort of Islam (not the strongest but not terrible). English Monarchy is strong if your blobbing is going to be mostly trade company or colonies but not great for a lot of states as your number of required seats gets out of hand. Peasant republic is another fun one (at least it is in 1.30).
