Besides having NIs that way diplomatic and influence are extremely useful for that(and they both have other great bonuses) with advisors helping more generally.
vassalization/diplo annexation players are completely ♥♥♥♥♥♥ by 1.8
Another fact : annexing a small one province vassal gives -3 diplo rep while the statesman gives only +2 , its unbalanced/untuned ( also the stateman is rarely available, and if you dont have one you re doomed )
Btw annexing any vassal now alway gives -3 reputation for 10 years, you really shouldn't anex a single province minor, make them bigger by feeding them first.
vassal feeding is hilarious now. being able to transfer occupation during the war and then give all the provinces to your vassal when making peace is much more efficient than having to sell them one province at a time and they cant decline it due to OE like they can with selling provinces. it just takes forever to annex them later unless you boost your diplo rep up
No one annexes a opm. You save a few dozen adm points but you use a entire diplo slot for 10 years. Even if diplo slots grew on trees i would probably be at my limit 24/7. And if you vassalise it, its because it has cores all around it.
The more dramatic thing is that annexing now keeps a diplomat busy for even longer, my record being almost 23 years for one annex. Even in 1.7 i could barely handle the basic needs with the limited amounts of diplomats available. This makes +diplo rep more valuable since it speeds up the annex alot. Which i personaly approve of.
The -diplo rep penalty doesn't even stack. I was really surprised about that after my first annex. You'll want to b able to still annex even with the penalty, then all is good. Plus, now you need to think about the order you annex in. Maybe dont take the vassal with your religion and culture group first. Atleast not before you have some more diplo rep.
And it does not last 50 years like you are lamenting. 10 years is not a long time in this game.
They had to nerv the annexing in some way. The ability to use your vassals cb's is just to ridiculous and the transfer of occupation does the rest. Vassal feeding has never been easier.
If you could integrate them with the old mechanic we would see world conquest not by 1700 but much earlier.
Diplo vassalizing: I like to do it too. But wit the old system it was just too retarted.
Once you got big enough you could vassalize anyone under 40 bt just by throwing them some money. Then you feed them some provinces from their neighbor and after 10 years you had 10 provinces more, with almost no work or cost. With the new system you cant just go around
offering vassaliasation to all the small things. Imho it's now a better balance between having to core yourself and vassal feeding.
And about the -3 penalty vs +2 statesman:
Complain about the fact that defensive gives +33% and offensive only +20% first, please.
Quick last comment about local autonomy:
The fact that higher government forms make it tick down faster means that they are actually worth getting now. In my book there was no points switching away from feudal or especially despotic monarchy before 1.8.
