I know that's why, it doesn't make it any less stupid of a decision though (IMO of course). 80+% of balance issues in the series have been caused by catering to bad Byz players.
Vic3 was a disaster but CK3 has been well received. If anything it was probably one of their smoothest releases of all time. The DLC might not be the most popular however.
There's definitely been a significant amount of such catering, yes. I'm not sure it's 80%, though :-).
Trade can be updated but not sure how because did not like the imperator way because it feels like a bit of a clunky mess to me. Still worked but don't know they would need to make something better but without being too much.
For the rest I would not be able to say what they will add. I will buy EU5 but it will be bare bones if we compare it to EU4. I just don't see what they could add. Maybe I am wrong and I will be amazed but yeah not sure.
Ck3 was a upgrade but it is in my opinion really held back by how slow the DLC release is. We are years later and trade republics and hordes are still not a thing with a lot of other stuff. We are getting there but man it will still be a couple of years till we get on the same level and that is my main problem with EU5
It's better than development where a crappy 1/1/1 dev province can become 30 in a single day. There's no way to make a decent system without adding something like a population mechanic.
As for gameplay, time will tell, but given PDX's track record I probably won't touch EU5 for at least 5 years after its release.
That's debatable. The development system itself isn't bad, what's bad is that it has no construction time / cooldown associated with it. You don't need pop system to "fix" it.
This is a bit of a wild card. With how much content is going to be in the game and how many nations there will be, I wouldn’t be surprised if it couldn’t keep up.
That said, the reasons I do still want an EU5:
Population system (haven't seen a decent population system in a game for donkey's! And no, I don't consider "pops" to be a good population system so Stellaris etc. don't count)
Dynamic trade (hoping this is in EU5. Kind of annoying that all trade is destined for England/Italy in EU4. Should definitely be able to take some of that trade to other places, and potentially make somewhere like China or India the centre of world trade instead).
Better graphics. Not something I care about that much, but could be cool to see a better looking map etc.
Better performance. EU4 does show its age at times in this regard.
New start date. I like the 1444 start, not sure whether I'll like the new one as much, but it will mean different countries, different events, different starting situations etc. I'm looking forward to trying things out in a new environment. Maybe I'll prefer the new start date, maybe it'll be about the same but that I haven't played to death, maybe I won't like it (can always go back to EU4 in that case!) but I'm looking forward to trying it out at least.
Also, EU4 is getting stale and everyone knows all the exploits and tricks, and that knowledge remains even when you don't want to use it.
Time for something new.
Imho it's more likely that it will be a hollow shell of a game that will only get good with tons of DLC.
I'm thinking more along the lines of CK3.... Lots of consolidation, minimal DLC... But you can give your ruler a double chin and watch them naked.(LOL!! I meant their being naked, not you....)
