Unlawful Territory
Hi,
I'm playing as Sweden and was at war with Denmark and took some provinces, notably Holstein. A little while after while I was coreing everything I got a pop up about unlawful territory. I didn't get a chance to read all of it because I accidentally pressed escape trying to access the menu-derp. But basically what I saw was a lot of minuses and that to get over this I need to concede the province. I'm assuming by pressing escape I said no, because I still have Holstein. What is affecting me now and is it worth finding an auto save to change it?

it's a province modifier. If you click on the province in your case holstein, it'll tell you what it does on the modifier list (middle right). Don't know exactly the modifier for unlawfull teritory, but it's something like +15unrest and -30 (or so) opinion of every HRE member.

To prevent unlawful teritory either have an alliance with the emperor and have a calim on the province or start another war before signing peace (e.g. with an opm). If you are at war or the emperor is at war until you cored it he can't demand unlawful teritory.

Basically the Holy Roman Emperor is flexing his muscles and wants the HRE territory back. Unless you are afraid of whomever the Emperor is (which, as Denmark, you really shouldn't be unless he happens to be allied with Sweden or something), don't worry about giving it back. Most of the time the HRE does ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about swiped territories other than demand them back.

Well, maybe this is a good thing, I am playing as Sweden and took it FROM Denmark, I'm pretty strong and Denmark is one province that I plan on taking in a bit. I'm assuming I should be okay then. But, will the modifiers go away in a certain amount of time or will they always stay this way? Once it is cored will it go way?

Didn't read the OP carefully enough. :D

It DOES go away on its own eventually, but I am unsure how long it takes. Honesly I didn't know it was a province modifier. I thought it was only a CB. It CAN however fire multiple times until you have the province cored, so make sure you do that if you don't want to give it up.

I generally never really care what the HRE thinks about me, so I don't tend to pay attention to the Emperor's little bickerings.

Yeah, it just cored. I think my plan will be just to keep it in endless autonomy to get the -10 unrest to battle the plus 10 and just do that until it goes away.
Thank

I would place an army on Holstein rather. It is a good defensive position for when you inevitably piss-off the HRE enough for them to declare war on you.

It rather sucks when you have eight hundred thousand teeny-tiny 3-5k armies running around your territory.

After you core an HRE providence you can remove the territory from the HRE. There's a button underneathe the unrest/autonomy ticker. Big old square box looking button. If everything is in order it should no longer be grayed out. Click it to remove it from the HRE. You'll no longer get unlawful territory for the price of getting dip malice with the Emperor. something like -60 that decays similiar to over extension and other malice modifiers. But if ya warring the HRE anyways something like dip malice isn't spooky.
