Too old a queen to get heirs?
My current queen is 55 years old and recently my heir died, leaving me with no heir. Does the queen's age means I won't be able to get an heir?

I don't think it actually goes into that much detail. You can check your heir chance by hovering the mouse over the space where your heir would normally be displayed though.

The thing is, many countries depicted in EU4 had weird succession systems, and most European dynasties had multiple branches, so the chance to get an heir really just represents the chance that a suitable member of the ruling family can be found and their right to inheritence assured before the current ruler dies.

Actually, having a ruler die without an heir can be a blessing. It means an adult ruler of a new dynasty will take over instead of potentially having an extremely young child. Also, since the new ruler will be of the same dynasty as one of your royal marriage partners, it puts you on the first step to a personal union. The only downsides are that it trashes your legitimacy and puts you at risk of falling into a personal union yourself.

Nope, age does not matter for producing heirs in EUIV.

Similiar to what @Deep Hurting and others said, heirs do not work as you might think they do. In EU4 an heir doesn't mean your child it only means a person who can legally claim the throne. This could be your child, cousin, brother (sometimes you will notice heirs who are almost the same age as your current ruler), etc.
Ah, I see, thanks, guys.
I had already noticed the nearly-same-age-heirs thing and always figured that it was a close relative not their children, so if there was none it was only children left, so I feared that age was a factor like in CK2.

I've had my 57 year old queen get knocked up before, so it can happen. No Menopause in this game.
