I started with Vicky Rev, and I loved the politics, the industry etc - it was just fun. and in CK2 it's the stories that it creates.
EUIV it's a bit more for the challange, but i'm still gonna press the "cash 300000" and spam mercs if I feel I'm getting too stomped ^^
But then, most of the serious games I play are 2 player Co-op in which we can't really cheat.
However one thing I must say for those that find an exploit (not the ones copying the actions they see from others) like DDRJake, is that I find it impressive they can. They tinker around with ideas and creativity of how you can use game mechanics. So I don't agree with the part to use exploits, but I am willing to say that it's not their fault that Paradox does a poor job of making stuff airtight. Also I find it different per "exploit" when you can call it an exploit or still using the game mechanics. A very small but grey area that makes an exploit not always a cheat in my opinion.
What I find the most silly thing is people that are in rage against persons like DDRJake for finding and using an exploit. I say: let them if they are ok with it. Arn't you just mad that you didn't find it yourself?
This is because of the earlier mentioned: what is an exploit? If you look very black and white on it, you can say that buying the expansions is also an exploit, because it gives certain advantages without drawbacks compared to the game without. No matter that Paradox makes it. A good example is the set focus option. This small thing makes a lot of difference depending on your ruler stats and your goals. Or gain acces to many more merchants by El Dorado.
Anyway these are just my opinions and thoughts of these matter. So don't start flaming if you have another opinion of these matters. We can agree that we can disagree with each other :)
Thats why I personally don't care much about stats alone, or achievements done by a player to determine if they are an "good" player or not. I can only tell if a player is good if I have actually played with them for several times, and even then he/she can be good/best @ one thing, and suck on other things @ the same time. What you can say however, is that these players have probably seen a lot in that game, and will also probably have a fair bit of understanding of certain aspects. But again also that isn't 100% solid and proof.
As far as the claiming expertise goes: this is done by many, even no cheaters. And they can be wrong aswell. Even for myself: I think I have a fair bit of expertise in certain games, but I will never say I am always right or even that I know it all.
Also I don't follow and know all the gameplay of DDRJake since I mentioned him earlier in my previous post, and I am also not saying that you point to him in the quoted part. But one thing I will mention in his defense in light of the above, is that of what I have seen and heard he doesn't claim to be the best or good @ any point. He just play's the game to have fun, and the people following him seem to enjoy themselfes aswell. So I personally don't care what he does/doesn't do in these games, and how he achieves his goals and achievements. Thats why I said if he is happy with his results, it doens't matter for me or you or anyone else. We play the game our way, and in this topic it means that Ultrix and I don't cheat. :)
the problem is i dont know how.
