as england, how do I finish off scotland without france from interferring?

So the year is 1465 at this point and I invaded scotland early and now have the highlands and a few other places in scotland. I settled for a few provinces because my warscore wouldn't allow anything else. Tyrone is also my vassal at this point. I want to finish off scotland, they only have 2 provinces left.. but they are allied with france. How do I get a good enough warscore to annex the whole place? Can I make France ditch them or something?

I'm pretty new to the game so any help would be appreciated.

You could wait until France is in a major war on the continent - with maybe Austria and Burgundy - then attack the Scots. If you have alliances with some large powers - maybe in Scandinavia - that will turn the French off too. Also, your fleet is likely a lot bigger than Frances. You could tank them before they landed any troops in Scotland. Keep a large naval presence around Scotland.

You're asking how to get around a mechanic (historical) that exists exactly to prevent you from doing what you want to do. Also, is it an actual alliance or is France guaranteeing their independence. It seems the AI/mechanics put a greater emphasis on a guarantee over an alliance, so he's more likely to honor the guarantee even if in a war with Burgundy or Austria. But waiting for him to be at war with one of them is often the best thing to do. Even if he honors the call, he'll still be too busy to do much about it for awhile.

Furthermore, your fleet is what is meant to prevent France from aiding Scotland. If you have provinces in France, he will occupy them, no way around it other than to fight him head-on (which takes some skill). Best thing to do is declare on Scotland, make sure to occupy the provinces and let the warscore go up each month for holding the wargoal until it offsets the value of your mainland provinces.

Also you could try attacking or geting involved in a war against one of Scotlands others allies, and hope they join in.

Or get really lucky and see an Irish state get a personal union over Scotland. I'd say this is rare but since I've seen it happen 3 times...

Get your troops out of mainland Europe and back into England, declare war on Scotland, vassalize or conquer. Done :P

As long as you're in the HYW you should safely be able to conquer Scotland =)

Do this. Find out who Scotland is allied to besides France, and Declare war on Them

What I did was fabricate a claim on Scotland during the Hundred years war. Then I declared war on Scotland. As I was at war with France anyway they couldn't intervene. This works wonders if you don't plan on being on the continent. Also this means you can vassalise Scotland.
