Granting Independence to a vassal?
Granting Independence to a vassal? Is this possible like it is in CK2?? How would I do this?

First, enter in the Diplomacy Windows with right-click in a province of your Vassal, then go to Influence Actions (or Options) and you will see the option "Break vassalization" this cost you 25 prestige and will damage the opinion in -100 with "Our overlord abandoned us"

Ah okay thanks, didn't know if there was a way to happily do it considering they hate me anyway. I moved my capital to greenland as ireland and just want to get rid of them at this point but it seems I have a truce with them so I can't do that yet =\

Not to argue the logic here, but if a vassal hates you, shouldn't releasing them be a positive thing???

Personally I think it should depend on the vassal's liberty desire. Release them at 50; no relations impact. And 1 relation per point of LD either way. So, -50 at 0 LD, +50 at 100 LD.

Just my opinion, ofc.

yeah at the time I had all my vassals with a LD of 100, then I get dinged for doing it for them when their making alliances to support their independance so much. Then again, it hurts my own prestige and stability, which makes sense. My country failed, regardless of their own desires.

However, "Our overlord abandoned us" penalty in this situation doesn't make much sense to me.

Your colonial nations will take a positive relationship bonus for releasing them, regular vassals are mad for... reasons...

Good to know, thanks.

Zero, I think the theory is that even if they don't like you, you're still a means of protection for them. If you give them independence, you're also removing that level of protection and making them far more vulnerable.

This still doesn't make sense when releasing mega vassals like Sweden that don't need your protection, though. And if they're over a certain level of liberty desire (I'd say 60-70%) you'd think they'd be happy about it.

Yeah when I had this isue I had 3 vassals all had 100% LD and were making alliances to support their own independence, yet I still get dinged for letting them go =\

If they're not going to be loyal and you can't annex them I would just wait for them to declare independence, then eat some of their provinces in the war. At least then you get some of their provinces. That's good (maybe even better) for disloyal PU members as well.

Declare a war on an opm, 100% siege and then offer to give up a vassal, they wont hate you less but the world will like you more :)
