Playing Italy, what to do with the pope?

hello there,

Im playing Italy and i conquered Rome obviously, but now the pope doesn't reappear! can i make something like vatican city? Cause i dont see anything..

also, does anyone know a link to italian events? i cant find them on the wiki, and im interested to se what ill get later on! or are there some nice missions for italy to maybe get into Libya or the Ottoman Empire?

Search Papal States using the search feature, when they lose Rome you will get an event (if you were the one who conquered the city) requesting to give back Rome to the Papal States. If you refuse the game will randomly (I think at least) pick a Catholic AI province and form the Papal States. In my current save Tuscany conquered Rome and refused to release it so Bamberg (German Wurzburgian province) is the new seat of the Papacy.
I've had a game Shetland (the Norwegian island) became the new Papal States.

Yeah they don't receive the negative bonuses for having control of Rome, but the Papal State should still form somewhere else.

You get it as long as you didn't form Italy.From there I think you don't get it.

Just to clear things up.

Taking control of the Rome does no damage to you as "Italy". If you're still Tuscany or Milan or something it'll damage you.

if you've taken Rome and you can't find the papal states then it's likely they're in Avignon in south France unless France took it.
When the Papal States lose all its provinces it takes the place of another Theocracy nation. For example Magdeburg or Lìege.

They're quite hard to eliminate completely. You can find them specifically if you hit "F" and search for the Papal States and it should pop up with a small flag next to their name, it'll take you to their capital.
