Small Cast Cannon & Large Cast Cannon Issue ...
This is my first playthrough as the Ottomans. I have just unlocked the cast cannon technology.

My first thought was, small cast for use against armies, large cast for sieges. I preceeded to upgrade all my guns in my armies to small cast, & I built some large cast to hold in reserve (to move in to assist sieges).

On completion of my build I reviewed my armies & reserves, & noticed that they were ALL SMALLCAST CANNONS!

I navigated into my army tab & changed my preferred artillery to large cast cannon. Reviewd my armies/reserves & noticed they had all changed to LARGE CAST CANNONS!

Can someone please explain this to me, & further explain how I make use of either cannon during battles & sieges ...

Thanks ...

The cannons have the same effect for sieges either way their is no difference really but for battle I barely find a difference in the early game

You can only mix unit types by using mercenaries. Regular units all upgrade to the same thing while mercs never change until disbanded.

What type of cannon you use only matters for battles, the only difference is more attack or defense on the different battle phases, it's not even that big a deal, I just pick one randomly, I don't have the patience to read up on how pips affect battles and such.

For sieges the only thing that matters is bringing enough artillery to get as much siege points as possible.

You can only standardize one unit type at a time. Where there are multiple units at the same tech level, they will be roughly equal but may have slightly different stats. Generally, it doesn't matter too much unless you're really into micromanaging, but for comparison:

Large cannons will inflict slightly more casualties in the fire phase and will make the army slightly more resilient to losing morale.

Small cannons will cause enemy morale to deplete faster, and take fewer casualties in the event they are ever exposed in the shock phase.

Generally, I would say large cannons are better.
