Most Depressing EU4 Moment You've Ever Had?
I just want to hear about how the great empires of others have broken apart to see what has happened to the others. I've had two great games collapse, and both due to disasters.

I'll start off:

Playing as the Muscovites, I formed Russia, massacred the steppes, pushed into a good half of Asia, and was stomping through Scandinavia. (Ironman Mode.) OE and AE are low, Stability is 3, I have a great heir (4/5/5)...

Oh shoot, my heir died out of the blue...

Oh shoot, my king just followed suit...

Oh shoot, some 1/1/0 guy from Bohemia inherits my throne...

Oh shoot, he only has 20 Legitimacy...

Oh shoot, Sweden, Lithuania, Poland, Norway, Denmark, England, and Hungary all invade me...

Oh, yay! I won the war!

Oh shoot, I have no manpower.

Oh shoot, the Peasant's war is skyrocketing at 1.5 per month since I have no legitimacy...

Well ♥♥♥♥. I have to fight 132,000 rebels vs my 32,000 man army.

Oh, and after I lost the Peasant's war, I got invaded by Sweden and Co. Again.

Think you can top such magnificient degrees of downfall? I think not. So, prove me wrong!

... I swear I have no idea how the AI gets so lucky. Half my army was destroyed, I'm left to hire mercenaries in order to ever dream of beating them, here I am losing 60 ducats a month at my most desperate time.

France is always a lucky nation

There are so many depressing stories that say something like "so I thought I could attack France," or, "France and I were long time allies until suddenly ..."

how many frenchman required to defend Paris? ....

noone knows, they never tried to defend it:D

but yeah, France unhistorically OP in the game, the fact that Paradox tried to make them enough strong for napoleonic era made them extremly OP even for early times.

at the times of the game start the future of France wasnt that sure, history could have been very different, but that dont comes through in eu4. i never ever seen weak france in any of my game while in eu3 it happened a few times that burgundy became dominant in that region or england won 100 years war, there are no randomness for france in eu4.

france can be vulnerable. in my game as tunis they were getting smashed about by nations like england and castile. it was only my presence in the war that kept the warscore down so they didn't lose as much and could recover.
maybe they're only bad when they're 1 of your crucial allies? lol

So far I've played as Spain twice and Ottoman once on ironman. With Ottoman I was able to crush France easily in late game. With Spain I got crushed by France so I quit and tried again. As Spain I couldn't get more than white peace out of France, though I was getting coalitioned each time. I finished the game and got some achievements but couldn't get the Spain is the Emperor achievement :(

Starts game as France. Got cores from England, inherited my share of burgundy, annexed provence and brittanny, later savoy, y'know, just being France. 1480, Iberian Wedding triggers. 1490's, Castile with Aragon/Naples PU gets my dynasty. Claim throne, war declared. Me alone vs Iberias (portugal too) and Naples. 10 year war - forces PU. 2 months tick by after peace, lost the 3 unions due to low opinion.

Closes eu4 and goes scream to a CS:GO casual pub.

Getting to the Religious War with a bunch of mods and cheat mods. The only positive is that I make myself AND the AI more powerful. The bad luck is, if I get into a world war conflict, it IS one. I'm talking about a couple of million troops against another. As the Netherlands I owned my share of the Low Countries, North America, South America, Indonesia, and even a lot of India. The strength of my alliance included me, Prussia, Scandinavia, The Commonwealth, and the British, numbering close to 3.8 million soldiers.

The Catholic League: France, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Novgorod, and the Ottomans, number 2.6 million. The largest issue is, what do you do if your enemy outnumbers you by over a half a million men in the MAIN theater? So here I am freaking out of being outnumbered and then I look at Britain who I know isn't going to do ANYTHING. I could grab my troops from everywhere else, but if I land them somewhere, they would get pounced on and destroyed. To make matters worse the Catholics decide to invade through the mountains, forcing us to engage in monstrous battles resulting in hundreds of thousands of casualties.

The problem doesn't get better when you lose a couple of Stadtholders during the war that lasts 10 years. In the end of my war, the Protestants manage to win but have to settle for the Peace of Westphalia, making the entire war a fiasco in itself.

Where was Britain in all of this? Oh yeah. They come in during the last THREE years deciding to land in RAGUSA..... after we practically sieged Austria down and were getting pushed back by the Iberians and French in their homeland.

this happened just now. playing as hindustan. got cape, kichesipi and london. just fought a big war with ming and got canton. i wondered why the achievement wasn't firing. then i realised my stupid colonial nation in canada had lost kichesipi when they had for some ridiculous reason declared war on french canada and i didn't intervene as i forgot they owned a key province. now got 2.5 years to take it back from france...

i do not understand it.
i have seen so many threads whining bout france...if you have problems defeating france with one of the majors, like castille for example, you did not understand well enough how the game works.
ally austria, check manpower, check allys, wait for a opportunity(for example a war burgundy-france) and crush the hell out of them.it is so easy,it feels like cheating

i managed it thankfully. being able to declare war on cree to drag france in was vital.
i had to declare another war as well to be able to siege kichesipi and occupy it.
sometimes a subject's AI can be really annoying.

Almost got the achievement with Ayutthaya about getting all Indochina. Year 1756, only 3 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ provinces remain, owned by an OVERPOWERED Ming. They just finished their war with Russia, they lost. 0 Manpower, 51 mercenaris hired. 180k soldiers. Me: powerful westernized Ayuttahaya 150k soldiers 96k manpower. Decided to attack Ming because of why not. Got rekt by 200k chinese soldiers. My army destroyed, barely 50k survived. Achievement lost. Time wasted...time to kill myself

I played as Austria and France got a Habsburg king, waited until he didn't have heir, clamied throne, attacked, won (France already had the Elan!) and formed union, and right after that my king died, France had negative opinion of me, so the union broke, and I got a Restoration of Union CB which expired before the truce...

My worst game ever was as Golden Horde in 1.09.
Admin ideas were done, 3 stab, 100 legitimacy, 197 adm, about to reform around 1520.
That month my ruler dies with a child heir, but I have plenty of troops and 100k manpower, so I'm not stressing.
Then the replacement instantly dies and leave his age 0 child as the khan, plunging me into eternal succession crisis. I fight off rebels until a decent leader emerges and let him start carpet sieging. Takes him 10 years to do it. Just as he sieges down the last province he needed to break the country and end the succession crisis, four different nationalist rebels rise up.
Since all rebels have their demands met, Persia (7 provinces), Sibir (5 provinces), Ukraine (4 provinces), and Smolensk (2 provinces) break off and form. I spend the 5 years of truce time trying to pay off loans and swatting rebels that pop because I haven't been at war. I declare on them one at a time and take back everything I lost, but I'm down to 0 manpower since I can't afford mercs to siege.
Once I finish with them all I note that I'm right at 70 legitimacy again, so I build back up to 3 stab, and I'm sitting at ~150 adm. Peasant's war event spawns, -3 stab, instantly broke again, and I can't fight off the rebel stacks as my lack of manpower starts to eat into me.
Took me nearly 6 years to clear the event, putting myself deep into debt, but at least it's over. I start having rebels pop up almost as soon as the event ends because I haven't been at war, so I declare on OPM Trebizond that Otto had split off by the french.
Apparently that was what Muscovy was waiting on, so they DoW with their ally France and Sweden. Once they siege down the first province, Lith + Poland + Bohemia DoW me, and then Timmy + Qitar later that month. It was at this point I accepted what paradox had been telling me for the last 100 years and I gave up.
