Its me trying to click an army but then an event pops right infront of me now I have to deal with a colony with a very horrible auto-name for the rest of the game IN IRON MAN.
I had royal marriages with both the Commonwealth and Muscovy. I was about to expand farther into the middle east (literally just about to hit the declare war button on Ottomans) when I get a notice that Muscovy has started a war with Denmark (which had a ton of allies and PU's over Norway and Sweeden) so I accept, figuring I'd just start my own war afterwards since I felt strong enough to not need any help.
So, the war starts and we face heavy opposition, but our alliance is strong enough that we actually start to gain some ground. It looks like we are about to achieve a seperate peace with Venice and Bohemia, two of the major players, when all of a sudden...
The ruler of the Commonwealth just up and dies.
And it starts a succession war between me....
and Muscovy.
So now, not only am I still fighting in the war against Denmark and their allies (which have NO interest in securing a seperate peace with me), but now I find myself fighting Muscovy (previously one of my top allies and the one who forced me into the other war) for control over the Commonwealth.
Might I add, the Commonwealth had a 100% liberty desire, so they were literally no help at all. They just sat on their butts while I fought for their throne despite them having apparently favored me instead of Muscovy for their line of succession.
The only saving grace was that in our three-faction war, Denmark's alliance focused 99% of their forces on Muscovy, with only a token force from Venice laying seige to one of my forts in the lands I conquered from Hungary.
I focused on Muscovy too but, as their forts fell, the rest of Denmark's forces turned their attention to me. As they were making their way down, I figured I'd had enough and decided to make concessions to Muscovy to end at least one war.
To my surprise, their terms were generous. All they wanted was 200 ducats and an inconsequential territory that I grabbed from the Great Horde before they were wiped off the map. They let me keep the Commonwealth, for what it was worth.
With peace secured, I pulled my armies back and prepared to defend my lands when I caught yet another break.
Denmark's forces turned around and went back to Muscovy to stop their freed-up armies from recapturing their forts. I used my own armies to seige down Venice and Bohemia. That, combined with the the Muscovite assault on Sweeden and Denmark's continued efforts to retake the forts they lost while moving towards me, built up enough war exhaustion to allow me to peace-out with them for the cost of 600 ducats and the nullification of my alliance with Tuscany (I was hoping to reunify Italy through a series of PU's and Tuscany had conqured a good chunk the provinces north of the Papal States).
I ended the conflict with my manpower drained, my economy in ruins as I was forced to take out three loans to pay for peace, and my armies at 1/8th of their strength.
I should probably mention that I was not the most popular guy in Europe thanks to my earlier conquest of Hungary, or in the Middle East because of my romp through the Caucasus and the Ottoman Empire.
Muscovy and the Commonwealth were my defense against aggression from both of those regions, and now Muscovy (which I had an RM with and the shared a dynasty) hated my guts with -200 relations due to wanting a LOT of my provinces while the Commonwealth wanted their independence back and contributed nothing to help me.
Muscovy rivaled me and broke off our RM, thus dashing any hopes I had of patching things up with them down the road. They formed Russia soon afterwards and left me isolated on the world stage.
And that's when the sepratists rose up.
So.
Many.
Sepratists.
My earlier conquests had come back to bite me in the butt and I only had the strength to stop a few of them, mostly whatever my land armies could reach because I never invested in a navy and now had no money to do so. I lost the mouth of the nile, which seceeded back into the Mamluks, along with Theodoro, Crimea, and Georgia declaring independence.
The final straw was when my king died heirless and a pretender rose up with a significant force of his own.
I gave up and reloaded an earlier save to right before Muscovy called on me to fight Denmark and declared war before they sent the call. Thankfully, the Commonwealth produced an heir this time and I made sure to stay at war with the Ottomans until Muscovy accepted a white peace with Denmark.
Then I got a 5-4-5 King who promptly turned my country into a Republic. I declared independence from Uzbek while they were in a war, having 15k of my own soldiers. Since they were just a tribute overlord I didn't have to fight in a war. I still considered declaring war to ensure a peace timer after their war was over.
I saved the game then played a single month to see how bad the strength of alliances modifier would be. It was -27.
It autosaved. I was in the middle of building a fort to keep them out but because I accidentally declared the war, they swarmed all over my land and fully annexed me.
100 years for absolutely nothing.
But since the Ottoblob was busy elsewhere and Muscowy was destroyed, I escaped disaster. Narrowly.
The lesson? F*** dumb AIs and their trigger happy peace deals. Not worth saving people in coalition wars as those are always brutal, as the AI only declares war when the coalition is stronger than the whole alliance...
-Plays Navarra, gets PU over Aragon after a million attempts
-Aragon declares independence war along with Naples, Castile betrays me but they're still outnumbered
-Castile gets iberian wedding which they can't get if they're at war with Aragon
-I'm left with useless 100 LB Naples
Pretty good England start:
Scotland has been subjugated and integrated.
No surrender of Maine event due to popping a Normandy and Gascony out both placed on scutage.
Whole of Ireland taken.
Gascony fed all their French cores.
Norway transferred to me in a peace deal.
Forced PU over France.
Before the 'transfer subject for half cost' bonus runs out decide to take Naples off Aragon, desperately improving relations with everyone and sending gifts to avoid a coalition.
Peace out, no one starts a coalition, Pope suddenly hates me as Naples is on his doorstep.
Excommunication.
-200 opinion with every catholic.
The biggest coalition I have ever seen in my life.
1. Choose Portugal
2. Ally with Spain
3. Fight against Morocco
4. Get wiped across the floor, despite having Spain as an ally and equal military size to Morocco
Eventually I just threw my hands up and replaced Morocco with a catholic custom nation so I could colonize as Portugal in peace.
