Probably whatever nation the in-game tutorial/"Interesting Nations" list recommends. Possibly Portugal, to keep consistent with my first experience of EU4. At some point afterwards I'd definitely be giving some noteworthy Germans a try, as well as Muscovy. Probably saving Sweden until people figure out how to revive the Norse faith.

i don't think it's a good idea. crushing the reformation would make the game by far easier and fun. by the way actually if you join the catholic league in HRE and win 30 years war, it's somewhat similar as if you crushed protestants.

Starting with Teutons again. Apparently they got an imperial privilege in 1337 to conquer all of Lithuania and Russia, so i assume there will be a strong focus on that. Maybe another focus on entering the HRE. I guess forming Prussia eventually, maybe Germany.

As a new player you should first go with easy picks to get the basics of the game:
war, trading, colonizing, province management etc.
Portugal, Ottos and Mamluks right now, i think are the easiest choices to start playing.

Sweeden after last dlcs is also now a very powerful nation, but its a little tougher. After you win your independence you can advance into denmark, norway, iceland to form scandinavia, colonize the north americas and even go east against the Tsar..

Dunno why people think Sweden is OP, they have some nice military ideas but that´s it. Their starting economy is terrible, and the AI fails miserably every single time.
