What is proper amount of achievements?
Do I've became the image of English King from Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides movie when someday reaching the achievement number of 20/29 of 373 achievements in EU IV? So a small numbers but very fat in style, perhaps :steamsalty:

Who never knows how many or few to get of those in future :mailedfist:

That is entirely okay - I wasn't sharp earlier with Ironman mode so that started a squirrel wheel for me.

I would do the same if purchasing Hearts of Iron IV, because I did learn my lesson and play that without Ironman mode if buying something like this game. With exception I would like a Crusader Kings III with few dozens of achievements or something something..

See achievements as a way to play differently, have different focus, change perspectives. That's food for the brain. There's nothing worse for the brain than doing the same thing over and over again.

I do like to read and watch guides for achievements :D Paradox wiki was a true goldmine when playing the Crusader Kings II (Now I have 25 of 161 achievements there and I'm thinking that I am now Edward the Longshanks :muchomurka:

Oh, achievement hunting is just modern way to collect something similar like stamps. I think that stamp collectors have same kind of addiction or anything else what can be make a collection.

Well, not inherently an addiction but a behavior that can cause one. Usually addictions go with a drawback (like for your wallet or your health) and cannot be controlled as in most cases abstinence is the only way out.

On the EUIV case, achievements are diverse enough to renew your experience of the game and test plenty of strategies. For the hardest one, they require a lot more optimization and therefore knowledge of all intricated parameters. So it's stimulating enough and not too repetitive.
The addiction part of a Paradox game from the last decade is more related to DLC hoarding than achievements.

Just doing honest cleaning up duty for playing games what have been in lesser focus in past years- it is actually healthy for getting something new from time to time. If thinking about real life drinking cola drinks and sometimes early night coffee what is also unhealthy - but those shall give a nice boost for gaming also.

41 of 373 seems doable and pretty amount of achievements and also giving some quality time with EU IV while someday reaching there. Still, it is undecided how much more or less playing this game- I don't have much open gaming projects for now.

Usually getting the feeling that gaming companies and Valve do not much appreciate the art of achievements. Seen also some gaming studios to remove small part of achievements from their games. Luckily players keep achievements from closed games at least for now.

I have like 53, don't think I hunted any of them down but I tend to play Western and Eastern Europe mostly same stuff so probably have most from those countries.

But I have always played Ironman so just picked them up over the years.

The word addiction has latin origins and meant to devote oneself, sacrifice, sell out or abandon.
The first use of addiction was a person who was enslaved by a court.
Using original/early definitions to devote yourself to achievements would mean you are an addiction.

I've got 157. Gave up on them a few updates ago though. Got fed up of the increasingly silly requirements for some and just decided to start playing with mods instead. Most of my EU4 time for the last couple years now has been on the Anbennar mod rather than vanilla.

Achievements are just opportunities to learn more of the game. when you think you understood the game and have no more fun with it, go for a new achievement !

I do already understand some of the basic mechanics. Before when much bother with Steam I did play EU III (disc version with Divine Wind) many hundreds of hours. Although it was much simpler game the rhythm of speed was very near of EU IV.

I was only asking where is the honor of different amount of achievements :ambition:

None and all. It is all about each one.
I'm not an achievement hunter, in fact I don't care about them, but for some reason in this game, after some runs I wanted to play no matter what, I play with the idea of getting them. Will I get all? I don't know, maybe I will get fed up of it and abandon the hunting and uninstall the game, or maybe I will keep going until I have them all, time will tell, but in any case it will be my decision and nothing wrong with any of the "endings", why care about what others think about it?
