Why is Aragon so Unpopular?
I'm currently playing a game as Aragon and it is such a fun nation. Why is it underrated then? I've seen a quadrillion Castile playthroughs on youtube but less than ten Aragon playthroughs. Why is this wonderful nation so underrated?

This - Aragon don't receive Colonization bonuses like Castile do. I've done plenty of Aragon into Spain games though.

A free PU (maybe even two) is quite good. :)

Still, I find Aragon more fun because it isn't as easy, I like the name, it has many opportunities, and I hate the name "Castille"

Castille is one of the easiest nations in the game to play. It starts in an extremely storng military situation with a large bonus to army morale and is ready to colonize the new world at tech 4 with its amazing colony-boosting ideas..

The only issue with it at the moment is that it's a lot harder to pull off the old strategy of immediately taking out Portugal without England stepping in.

Whenever I have played as Castille I always like to let Portugal colonise, all the money is coming into Seville node so I figure having 2 countries doing the work is better than one.

The problem is, the node isn't in Seville anymore, if I remember correctly. They changed it in this patch.

Yeah, but the greedy Portuguese own half the trade power in the node.. That, and they're sickeningly better at trading so will probably end up dominating you anyway. Fortunately, Castille has its own strengths, and I find it's best to use them early where Portugal is concerned.

One well-loved strategy was to vassalize portugal and then let them colonize for a bit before integrating them.. My OCD gets upset by having colonies of the wrong colour, but it's hard to deny that's a pretty effective way to play.

Because people keep expecting to play as the heir to Gondor and get annoyed when they're disappointed that they can't

Don't you mean the heir of Gondar?

(Actually an easter egg in the game!)

Oh I know, but ever since I first saw the name Aragon (back when Medieval 2 Total War was released I think) I couldn't get Aragorn's name out of my head

how funny would it be if you vassalise portugal and let them also colonise. Its like having 6-8 colonists.
