the horse event
hi guys. I'm playing Austria for a second time in a row. As you know, once you PU Burgundy you have access to the first mission related to the lowlands and it's related event "the lands of Lothair". Mission reads "Burgundy will no longer inheritable via this event". Now, I'm not sure if that's only if you pick option1 or 2 or the mission properly. Last time I've picked option 2 but never got the horse event. Now I'm holding on clicking the mission but I'm 45 years into the PU and still nothing. Wich of the 2 options should I NOT select or should I still hold on clicking the mission? Thanks in advance, have a nice 2025.

If you choose the first option("We shall maintain the sovereignty of Burgundy."), you can't get the horse event anymore. But I don't think it is worth it to hold of the mission, because it only triggers the event "The Lands of Lothair" if Burgundy is your junior partner.

In any case, you can only get the horse event in the first 40 years after the burgundian inheritance. It has an MTTH of 15 years and it can't happen while you are at war, so there is a decent chance that it doesn't happen at all

thank you for the speedy reply! Alright, I'm integrating Burgundy the old fashion way then.

This is why I always recommend that players who get the inheritance take periodic breaks from warfare, particularly at the 10 year + mark after it happening.

Why at the 10 year + mark?

It's somewhat arbitrary, certainly. But after 10 years, you've already gone through 1/4 of the 40 year window, so 30 years remain. And the event has an MTTH of 15 years, which means after 15 years you've got a 50% chance of it firing--IF you're at peace the whole time. That's not likely. If you fight about half the time from the 10 year mark until the end of the 40 year window, you get the same 50% chance of the event.

Fight more, chance goes down. Fight less, chance goes up. Start earlier, chance goes up. Start later, chance goes down. It's a balancing act with a strong RNG component. I'm not a fan of those, personally, but the game is what it is.
One of the things I don't get with a lot of thanks for playing awards and not just in this game either is why a so many times they seem to be just pointless hoop jumping that contributes little to nothing to you strategy and can sometimes be counter productive.
