"AI improvements"
Does it seem to anyone else like the new AI changes are just "AI cheats more" ? Help Poland defend against Russia, stackwipe all of Russia's armies as Sweden with half the numbers easily, few months later I get destroyed by Russia when declaring war on Karelia.

Nothing changed for either country. Also had problems with the mission tree not giving out certain rewards for both Sweden and Lubeck, and the game just eating the ducats I spent upgrading a monument.

Nope. It just plays better.

i was about to start a new thread, but the opposite. the "better" ai seems to be nothing but inaction. i keep seeing the defending armies move all their forces to go sit in a far corner of the country, regardless of comparative strength. there have been a few times when they attack, but mostly i am just chasing them around the map these days.

when i attack and they retreat, sometimes they will go to an unoccupied province. it used to be they would regroup and then get back into the fight (either smartly or dumb based on morale). now, they just stay there the rest of the war. as italy (and others), i was fighting bavaria (and others), and managed to beat 3 armies of 10, which then retreated. those 30 units sat in a neighbor country while my 8 units left in the area took all their territory.

^- fwiw - i am running ET, so not sure if that impacts the AI in a negative way, but no other mods

Yeah, ET has been having a massive issue for a while now with the AI basically shutting down entirely, and enemy troops simply refusing to move anywhere. It happens infrequently in the vanilla game already, most commonly in subject nations, but something about Extended Timeline makes the issue crop up far more often.

I always take "Improved AI" with a grain of salt. When Paradox starts removing all the cheats the AI gets and it can compete with the player, i'll start to believe it.

because i'm not really interested in vanilla. i'm more interested in a half-working ET, than a fully working vanilla.

no worries - i didn't know there was a history of ai issues associated with ET, at least not a major one i've noticed until the most recent eu4 update. i was just looking at mod and eu4 discussions about ai changes, and ended up here.

I'm confused- where's the cheat?

(Actually this... basically just sounds like the Great Northern War. You kicked the crap out of Russia, then they got their crap together and kicked the crap out of you.)

Kind of yeah but the tech, bonuses, etc were all the same as the previous war as there was like 2 months delay in between wars, bit weird.

Did you catch them drilling/at low morale/with heavily depleted regiments the first time? I'm wondering if your early luck in repeated stackwipes might have been the anomaly.

Nah, they outnumbered me 2 to 1 when I was stackwiping them also but when they did it to me I outnumbered them 2 to 1.

ET is very buggy with AI, they literally just sit there and do nothing. Vanilla the AI is a lot more responsive imo, much smarter than last patch.

That's interesting. I know they did some combat rebalances, maybe there's something wacky going on when you outnumber your enemy.
