Upcoming DLC Domination: Is EU4 still worth playing 2023?
There has not been a bigger fan of this game than me, playing this game since my childhood. The last few DLC's however, as far as I remember, caused huge discussions and broke the balance and performence of the game. I stopped playing the game back then and I have been pretty angry about Paradox Interactives handling of this series (I rather wanted EU5 than more broken DLC's which make the game more unplayable).

So how has it been in the last year, are the problems gone, is the game good again, do you think the new DLC is even bareble for such a old game? The devs already said with the last DLC's that EU4 can't handle more new content because of the old engine, performence would worsen quickly. But now they publish another big DLC remaking everything on a big scale and everything will be fine? Sounds like a bad hoax.

New Paradox games start with severe lack of content, just look at CK3 vs CK2, and even EU4 at launch vs EU3. DLCs and free updates get fixed... eventually and kinda. As for Domination, it doesn't seem to add something clearly lag-inducing, like a bunch of new provinces and tags.

Sequels are always subjectively disputed and this discussion is not going to be about that. You cant change my mind, I cant change your mind. But hey, blame the developers for the lack of content, but after your logic it seems like they should never create any sequels ever again. You are just too lazy to wait, admit it - as someone who is studying, time flies by so I dont care if there is a initial lack of content. You know the word "progression"? Pretty much your problem if you rather want to trade modern technology and potential with your lazy ass. Spending some bucks for new DLCs? I earn money, I dont care.

Right now, I just want to know if EU4 got any better through fixes and if you are still not able to play multiplayer performence-wise.

Bro relax, you're acting like I killed your puppy or something.
As for fixes - like I said, it did get better. No idea about multiplayer.

Discussions about that topic always feel like that.
Thank you anyway.

I would be pleased about some multiplayer reports, maybe someone shows up yet.

Yes, it's worth it. Is domination worth it? wait and see. I hope the mission tree are not so orchestrate like the Sweden mission tree which felt like managing a clock factory (in HOI4 I don't mind this because HOI4 is basically building your own clock factory to win the war).

But the update seems to be really interesting.

The devs never said anything of the kind. Johan made a statement that they wouldn't add more provinces to the game. But at the same time, he also said that multiple additional expansions were coming.

You should get your facts straight before making emotional accusations based on something that's untrue.

Again, no. The devs have never, ever said that. The only thing they said is that they won't add more provinces. You're totally wrong.

Johan's exact words:

There are several reasons why we do not plan to spend more time adding to the map.

Save-game compatibility. This is a fairly big complaint we get at every update, how people's games and campaigns get ruined. This is a significant cost, and a major factor in people leaving eu4, due to their campaigns permanently destroyed.

Performance . Each province that is added, adds several NxN factors to a lot of calculations, and after 8 years of optimization of the game, there is simply no way to add more provinces without permanently hurting performance. Leviathan already took us past the point of no return when it comes to performance. In hindsight, we should have kept as maximum province count at <3000, and made it more even around the world, and kept adjusting borders of them.

Multiple Pass AlreadyAll of the world have had at least 1 major pass at map updates post release, and while some places could be better, that will always be the case, as each year we get better and better at improving the map. We have plans to add content and flavor to at least three more major regions of the world, but if we keep adding to the map, we'll create a bigger and bigger imbalance.

So: no new map additions, but multiple new expansions. He said this on September 14 of 2021 here: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/eu4-no-mapchanges-and-whys.1490842/#post-27790311
