What's the point in claiming a throne - If someone has a weak heir?

Something I have been wondering. If someone has a weak heir, why would I ever claim their throne? When their King/Queen dies - even though the heir may have a weak claim - its not like I can inherit their throne, can I?

You have a chance to claim that throne but you might have to go to war since others may contest your inheritance claim.

Wait - so if someone has an heir [but with a weak claim] (not in my dynasty mind you) - I could still inherit the throne?

It depends on the prestige of both countries, that's why in tab in the hub that says who has weak/no heries it tells you their presige as well. I think size of the country and their military also affects it, since I rarely get to inherent large powerful countries (although that might be because they tend to have higher prestige)

If you share a dynasty, claiming the throne gives you a CB to force a personal union. If they don't have an heir, you can get a personal union if their monarch dies.
If neither is the case (weak heir, different dynasty), claiming their throne is pointless.

Not pointless at all, as if another nation also claimed their throne than you will enter a succession war and if you win said war you'll force a PU on the nation you claimed throne on.

Okay, but you're dependant on another nation actually doing so. You can't start a war yourself, and if nobody else claims the throne, you still won't get a PU. (so it's really only for opposing other country's claims)

Since when do other nations claim thrones anyways? Normally they just allow things to take their own course
