The key to the game, or cheating? I feel like im cheating when I look at it (Try not to) but I feel like maybe its the next step of making me a better player? Advice?

If you dont want to use the ledger, you can always pick espionage ideas and the infiltrate administtation idea.

I first encountered the ledger by reading a forum post that was refering to using it to check a countrys manpower so you can declare war at the oppertune time, but it just feels idk, dirty"?

The ledger was introduced becouse of lack of "infiltrate amdinistration" loke it was in eu3. In eu4 you have to get the espionage idea wich really often feels like waste of idea slot.

Wait that is dirty? When wars are happening I make a claim on several fronts, and then in the aftermath I check who has no manpower reserve in the ledger then I go in. Thought thats how we were supposed to roll. I actually I was confused why it didn't just show manpowers in the nation UI since it was so important. Having to go the ledger just felt awkard.

if you enjoy check the ledger, do it, if you feel it's like cheating don't do it. But remember 2 things: if it's something implemented in the game, there is (usually) a reason and it's never cheating. And at the end, you should enjoy the game, in any way you like to play it
