Ai is vassalizing rather than annexing
So not sure if this is more workshop or not, but basically, i made a mod that causes revolts to spawn as actual countries rather than an easy to kill stack.

It's all working fine, except that the AI when it wins the war decides to vassalize, or take a bunch of provinces and vassalize the rest.

Any ideas on why this is happening? AI has cores on all the provinces, AE for the CB is reduced to nearly nothing due to being a revolt. Why wouldn't the AI just take all of their cores instead of vassalizing?

GC concerns? AE concerns? Ai propensity to go burn the capital, take the war reps, take the money, then take the land-can't do all that if you annex after all...

Can't be AE, that was set to like 0.1 to account for the fact they already took said provinces, this is the revolt war, as part of the "playable rebels" part of my mod.

Peace score was also put down to about the level of Nationalism and Imperialism CB i think, maybe lower.

Plus, if AI can vassalize a nation, they can just, you know, annex them in the war. It really doesn't make any sense to create a vassal and it may cause problems.

(i've been using MING as my test dummy for this.)

Like I said, in the current version the ai loves to burn the enemy's capital and take war reps, neither of which you can do if you annex them. Not saying it's smart since my personal feeling is it's stupid but that's how the current ai is set up.

Does your Ming have the mandate of heaven? Then they are a bad test case. I think the AI is coded to not really expand with the mandate and instead make tributaries. Maybe they make vassals if your CN doesn't allow tributaries

Tbh, that seems like a good thing. The AI vassalizes almost never in the original version, at least not through war.

Making a OPM tributary would be really smart move tbh.

Ming is the only one that starts out big but i can use console commands on some other unsuspecting AI and see what they do.

Well, Ottomans are doing it too, took all of Bulgaria except one province which they made a vassal for some reason.

Also, the rebel nation doesn't consolidate their regiments into an army, and instead just stands around with 2k on every province for some reason.

EDIT: ok so that's not always the case, it just was for Bulgaria for some reason.

Most likely the "ai freezes" bug that has been around for quite a while but gotten much more frequent in recent patches.

Ah so it's not my fault then.

Bulgaria revolt happened again, this time Bulgaria made a single strong army, with a 3 star general that almost won against 40k ottomans, so it seems to be working out pretty well.

EDIt: well i was checking in on the ottomans, and it seems the constant wars and rebel wars caught up to them, because their empire is collapsing now.

My mod, in case anybody was wondering.

Now that i think about it, this is a good thing, in case the player picks the revolt country but loses because obviously the empire it's breaking from has the advantage. Now if the player loses, they can plot their revenge as an OPM anyways.
