How do you good generals?

I usually just get the 1 star generals and then the odd time I will get 2 stars. Other country's seem to always have 2 stars and then even 3 stars sometimes. How do you get generals as good as everyone else?

The quality of your military leaders depends on your army and naval tradition. As your army tradition rises, you will hire better generals and conquistadors.

To get high tradition you need to actively fight in wars rather often. So help allies and manpower willing also try to engage and smash the enemy!
