Castille 1620's still have not inherited Aragon
Playing Castille, which I must admit is a great deal of fun. Only regret not picking religous as second idea for the free CB against heretics. Would have made the conquest of Mexico so much easier, no wheres near the success of Cortez, it took me almost 60 years after the Spanish Main event and there are still a few stragglers.

Anyhow why is it so difficult to inherit Aragon? Do most just integrate? Would like to form Spain.

You don't need religious ideas to conquer Mexico. You can get claims on most(or maybe all) of Mexico from your missions Found Havana[eu4.paradoxwikis.com], Claim Hispaniola[eu4.paradoxwikis.com] and Aztec Conquest[eu4.paradoxwikis.com]

Edit: Maybe some of these missions or their effect change if you don't have the golden century DLC

Definitely went about that the hard way. Allowed Portugal to get eaten by Morrocco, eventual drove the Moors out. It messed things up, otherwise could have triggered Spain. Did form Spain though. Just much, much later than historical

You just click the "form Spain" decision when you get to admin tech 10.

You've got basically no change of inheriting them normally. It's based on dip rep and how many provinces they have. Unless they're very small (or you have very high dip rep) your chance of inheriting them will probably be 0%. Aragon probably have 20 odd provinces too, so it'll never happen.

Religious ideas are fantastic. The CB is very useful, although you should get permanent claims on like the whole of central America anyway so you don't really need it for that. Plus the CB only works on nations that you border yourself, so once a colonial nations forms it becomes hard to get the religious CB on them.
The CB from Religious Ideas, while very useful, wouldn't have worked in the case of Mexico, as you only get the CB on heretic/heathen nations that directly border you, not the ones that border your subjects.

For reference, the "Iberian Wedding" event is how most people do it: https://eu4.paradoxwikis.com/Spanish_events#The_Iberian_Wedding

You just need to have different gendered rulers (between 1450 and 1530). That's basically it. Then poof, the game magics some fairy dust into the open, and Aragon becomes part of Castille.
