Stop being Holy Roman Emperor?

I can't become Germany when I am the Holy Roman Emperor. How do I stop being emperor?

Release vassles in the HRE. Let those vassles go free and give them elector status and make em hate ya. Non german culture nations are the best since they get a -25 penalty when votein for ya.

He's not the emperor of an existing HRE, he CREATED the HRE therein lies the problem.

No I am the emperor. I am as of now the South German Confederation but cannot get out of the HRE since I am emperor due to me being the last state in the HRE.

This is good to know.... I'm currently playing austria and taking over all the HRE, im down to 12 princes total, only 5 of them are electors, I got punted from my throne years ago and just turned on the HRE and devoured them so I'm not currently emperor. will I be able to form germany soon? or will I be stuck in the OPs boat too?

I'm pretty sure you can't form Germany at all. Austria does not have a culture on the list of those eligible to form Germany.

I'm pretty sure you can't form Germany at all. Austria does not have a culture on the list of those eligible to form Germany.

If you are in the German Culture group you can form Germany. Even custom nations can.

The Knights could form Germany when it gets down to it. Simply culture shift and go once you have the cores needed. France would probably have to ditch too many cores to do it easily but they could, anyone could.

That's not true. Your primary culture needs to be westphalian, pommeranian, rhenish, saxon, bavarian, prussian, swabian or franconian.

Everyone else needs to switch to one of these primary cultures, including nations with dutch, flemish, swiss or austrian as primary culture.
